Wont accelerate over 4000rpm

First of all, my car is a 05 MCa

OK heres the deal

My cooling fan burned out a few days ago. The replacement from RockAuto arrived today (the website had the part number for both the pre and post 03 fan but the description says its the post 03)

I saw other people had problems putting rockauto's fan in a 02 but not in an 03+

So the new fan is in and spinning but when I rev or drive, I cant pass 4000rpms. I know there are 2 speeds for the fan but could the high speed fan not kicking in prevent the car from accelerating?

If that is the case, what do I do to fix it? A friend suggested either splicing the old relay into the new unit, or putting the new fan and motor on the old unit but electrical stuff like that intimidates me and I really dont think I can do it.

Also, my bumper cover and aluminum bumper are off the car. Could this have anything to do with the problem? (does the car know the bumper isnt on because the lights arent plugged in?

I need help bad! I cant go to work until my car is fixed! No work = no money.

OK I did some research on limp mode

Will the car go into Limp Mode if the front bumper is off?

I think that even if the high speed fan wasnt kicking on, it would still accelerate. I managed to drive home normally after my old fan burned out completely.

Is your temperature sensor plugged in? It's attached to the bumper behind the lower grille usually - if it's unplugged, the ECU won't know the ambient temp and will do funky things like this.
