Navigation & Audio NUVI OEM Installation Bracket?
If the new Nuvi uses the standard Nuvi ball mount to mount its plastic bracket, then yes, it will fit. I am not sure it the factory electronics maybe slightly different. Aftermarket is always possible if you want to use the Nuvi power cord. We too have one for first gen cars.

Where do you put the charging cable from those mounts if you don't hardwire? I've been using mine almost a year just suctioned onto my speedo because it seems like the most logical place, to keep the charging cord out of the way. But, sometimes it falls off unexpectedly, and that sucks.
Also, does it allow for fast & easy switching of the unit? (No permanent mount).

Not sure with the speedo mount, but I have mine next to the tach. From there I route the cable back and down to the euro shelf where I have a three in one cigarette receptacle which powers the GPS, Escort and XM. The only one I cuss daily is the escort as it needs to be hardwired. In the very near future it will be and in a new location.
BTW - the factory wiring is nothing special at the Nuvi end as I think it uses a standard Nuvi bracket that attaches to the ball. I will have to check our extra one tonight to confirm. The big positive for it is that powers the Nuvi with auxiliary power from the MINI. This powers on the unit when you open the door and such and then cuts power to it when you shut the car off. At least it is that way on the R56.
Most of the GPS manufacturers make it easy to remove the unit while leaving the mount in place. Nuvi has a little button on the bottom of the plastic bracket that allows easy removal.

Pic 2: That is the black plastic clip (female) that clips on to metal bracket ball (male), then NUVI clips on the black plastic clip.

Pic 3: Some of the Garmin accessories I picked up at Circiut City before they closed, sandbag mount is in Corrolla and the AC/DC adaptor to charge at home is in one of my cabinets(?) in house. Deal on everything btw; Suction Mount=$10, Charger=$14, Sandbag Mount=$20, AC/DC Adaptor=$8. I should have bought the 09 update disc.

If you are getting OEM NUVI, Morristown has them for $313.
The oem unit turns on when you start the car and shuts off when you turn off car, you can also still turn it off if car is on or vice versa, simply by pushing "off" button on unit.

If you are still using the cig lighter plug in, it is fairly easy to route the wire up beside the steering column and come out which ever side you prefer. I have all my cord tucked back behind the dash and only enough wire is sticking out to reach the GPS. Hope that helps.
