Let's NOT Motor Day 2009?

I'm sure many of you got this e-mail just as I did. MiniUSA asking not to drive on June 5th in honor of World Environment Day.

www.letsnotmotorday.com

Sorry, this is a new one for me & when did this happen?

Haven't heard of World Environment Day either and I must motor that day to the Park N Ride for my bus to Manhattan. Think I'll take a pass on this one since much of my everyday commute is mass transit.

I got the e-mail today. Don't think my boss will go for it.

Screw that. I'm taking a high-performance drive that day at lunch and burning an extra few gallons just because I *still* can. The gubment will force me into an electric car soon enough.

I'm out as well. That is the day I've targeted to pick up my new MCS. Sorry folks but I plan to more than use my normal amount of miles that day. Can you blame me?

Good idea....but I "shifted gears" many years ago and ride mass transit for my daily commute, too.

In addition, I must say I am mighty pleased to be hypermilin' in one of those wonderful manual R56 Coopers that gets ultra-superb fuel economy!!! Just one more thing to love!!!

Agreed....I will do my best to consume and emit twice or maybe even three times as much as normal on that day just because these people thought that they had any place to tell or suggest to me how to live my life in the first place. If you want to make your own choice....Thats fine, I don't care and that means I really dont, I dont want to hear about it. What choice you make and why you made it.

I got the email too. Good grief! Really, I love MINI's marketing department. But this one's a dud.

I didn't buy my MINI to keep it parked in the garage, even one day. Nope, I'll be driving it proudly and waving at all the other MINI drivers doing the same.

Aww, poor baby, did some bad person tell you your way of life isn't permanently sustainable?

Here's the truth: it ain't. If being reminded of that hurts, perhaps you need to deal with it differently.

Here's the truth: It's sustainable for longer than me or my kids will be alive. And others will remove our ability to have any meaningful input on the decision long before the "sustainability" impacts any of us in a meaningful way.

Earth Day, then Earth Hour, now this nonsense? Once again a small group of nutbags attempts to dicatet how the rest of us need to live our lives. Hey, that corn-based fuel was a great idea, wasn't it? Remember food prices skyrocketing last summer because of the scarcity of corn for actually feeding people and livestock? These hair-brained schemes cause far more damage than they propose to fix. I love the do-gooders who drive around in their Priuses telling us we're mucking up the World while the production of their vehicles with their giant batteries emits more toxic fumes into the atmosphere than regular manufacturing. What happens to Mother Earth when all these giant batteries need to be disposed of?

Well put!

Plus I unsubscribed from MINI's marketing email. The stuff they were sending me wasn't making my life any better. This just pushed me over the top.

When I told the boss that I wouldn't be able to get to work on World Environment Day, her reply was..."you're an idiot!"

That gave me the urge to go out and hug a tree, so I did...now I've got ants crawling all over me and sap stains on my seersucker suit!

I wonder if all the MINI employees who drive to work get to stay home that day . So I guess all the dealerships will be closed?

What a crock. Like that day "they" told us to turn off our lights and use candles. I bet those candles put off more carbon than what was saved in power. I just laugh at these silly "hug a tree", "kiss mother earth" days, and "no motoring day" goes right along.
We have done more than enough by buying a MINI which is efficient and consumes less fuel.
I'm not anti-responsible when it comes to taking care of resources, but to request that I change my driving for the day for some lame idea someone has come up with in the marketing department is a laugh.

Oh, and I did submit my pledge.....for 0 miles. And it scrolled through once.

I'm glad a lot of people agree with me on this, I know "they" everyone to be Earth friendly but this is a bonehead move from the marketing dept. Since I got my r53 I've been having a blast driving it just about everywhere.

Sorry, I vented a bit. Not really bitter, just tired of all the usless "do-gooder" stuff that bombards me. Thought this one coming from my new friends at MINI (just bought a R55) was laughable. After all, they tell us to motor on and all, then say leave your car at home to save the planet...or something like that.

People like you = reason I don't frequent NAM as much. I came over to check if anyone else had gotten the email and sure enough, I found one of your type.

Yeah, right!

We're made to motor! This was a silly idea.

Makes me want to tear it up even more!

June 5th looks like a good day to start that new tire fire I've been wanting, in order to get rid of all the tires I burn through driving my car every day at full tilt.
