Interesting to juxtaposition the arrival of the MINI E and the JCW F1....things just roll like that in the MINI world!!!
i love the mini ads. i got a kick out of the latest vikings on the beach! thats a great one.

I will be ignoring the "Let's Not Motor Day" because for the first time in the 6.5 years that I've been able to drive I will FINALLY have a car!!! I will hopefully get to pick up my Mini this week so I am definitely going to drive it.

Re: Eco vs. Driving Spirit. When I got down to my last two cars to look at, they were the Prius and the Mini. I decided on the Mini because insurance was cheaper than on the Prius and because of how fun it is to drive. The Mini is kind of like the saying: "have your cake and eat it too." You get to have fuel efficiency, environmental friendliness, and a fun driving experience all in one compact package. Why mess with a good thing?

Yeah, they're great..the radio ads I'm hearing are on NPR (the right ad for the right audience, I suppose).

I guess the lesson I take from it all that it shouldn't come as too much of a shock that MINI marketing lands on the environmental side now and again, especially when more efficient cars are being discussed so much these days. That they have something to brag about is brilliant....I play w/ my Cooper a good bit and always see over 40 mpg in city driving (sometimes way more). Highway....45 to 46 mpg is not uncommon. Add to that the torque and great handling...yeah, I love this car!!!!!!

Frankly, I will too. I have to drive to the train station. I suppose I can claim the # or miles I save every day...maybe I'll do that for the fun of it.

I agree completely. Actually, I can't believe better driving dynamics are not better designed into every car....it really is a normal safety issue as much as a fun issue. If other makers figure this part out (the MINI secret weapon) they may actually have something.

I think your justification is about as good as it gets. Enjoy!

Yes, there are trade-offs...but I like to think of it as a performance issue either way (just different kinds). I have drive very deliberately to optimize my Cooper (unless I need to punch it ), but to me this is fun and engaging....I really have to be in synch with what the car is doing and I love that!!

My understanding is that the 2nd gen car actually shuts down the injectors when coasting or off the gas. If this is so, this is where one can access the mpg prowess of the Prince engine. Pretty clever really. I also read somewhere that the new JCW does not compromise mpg from what the R56 MCS delivers. If that is so, it's brilliant!!!

As long as we're not having any more of these torrential thunderstorms tomorrow, I'm down for this. 11 miles to work on my bike goes surprisingly fast.

Give me a break!

Well, in honor of all the MINI owners taking the day off from driving on the 5th, I promise to drive my JCW like I stole it on my 60 mile round trip commute to work that day. Wait a minute... I already drive it like I stole it every single day, since day one, break in period... oh, I broke it in alright! She has a hunger for chewing up pavement. So I guess I more than make up for all the non drivers tomorrow. LOL.

I'll make sure to try and count how many MINI's I see on the roads of Los Angeles... I average a minimum of 20 to 30 sightings per day, I really doubt that number drops bellow 20. Plus, the four tree-hugging MINI S and non S owners that park in the same parking lot that I do, I know will be at work. They own, but aren't enthusiasts... so they probably didn't get the email.

Here in L.A. we first had: A day without an illegal, then a day without a gay, and now we have day without a MINI, seriously this stupidity has to stop.

How about a Day That's Not a Special Day?

I will motor Poco, go where he takes me, and hopefully do so in a spirited fashion. If not spirited, then with much gusto

Well, I didn't "motor" today. I ended up having to take the full size SUV to work today, and also idled excessively in the Starbucks drive-thru.

I wound up workig at home today, so my motoring is about cut in half by not having to drive to the commuter train station (which daily cuts my commute by hours). As it is, I really do park my MINI a lot on any given day. Thing is...a little motoring in a MINI does go a long way. Very satisfying and good for the soul.

In honor of the day today, I drove 200 miles in the 09 JCW, 150 in the 09 S vert, left the Denali running in the driveway, took the Shelby GT500 Super Snake for a FAST ride did some burn outs to put some rubber back into the earth where it came from, and flew the plane for 2 hours (low altitude high power to burn the max amount of fuel possible.

and you thought i was not going to support the drive your mini day!
