Good Deal or Pass?

I have an opportunity to pick up a used 2007 MCS with an automatic transmission for $23,000. Car has cloth seats, no sunroof, heated seats, 16" Alloys, etc. Seems not to be a loaded S model. Mileage is right around 17,500 and only aftermarket item I noticed is tinted windows. Color is Sparkling Silver with white cap and mirrors. Good deal or pass?

Pass - You can get a brand new 2009 with the same configuration for that price if you buy it off the lot.

Get it down to about $20k and then it might be a good deal.

To do a thorough job assesing its value you need to know the sticker price, then you can figure the percent of new they're asking for a 2+ year old low mileage car. Asking prices on used cars are just that: negotiable. You can get estimated comparisons from Edmunds.com and KBB.com. I find those 2 commonly quoted used car estimators to be consistently different by up to 5-10% on the same car. I forget which one is higher.

Edmunds is more realistic, KBB higher.

Used car prices, including mini, have plunged due to the economy. You can by new discounted MCS at my dealer for 1500 dollars off and interest as low as 1.9% what's the incentive to buy used?

Thanks so far. I forgot to mention it does have the paddle shifters. Not too sure if that makes a difference.

As others have said...you can get a lightly optioned new MCS for that price. I think there are some pretty sweet (sub $20k) deals in the NAM marketplace...you should take a look.

Even if that were a well optioned 07, I'd talk him down a few thousands or walk away. Getting an '08, 10000 miles, much better optioned, 6 spd for less than that. Autobox should knock off a few hundred $$$ from the price, not add to it

I may just walk away and wait for better deal. I really would prefer a Clubman anyway.
