M7 turbo heatshield
I am going to post a link here, because I initially put my post in the wrong section. I'm looking for heatshield owners to go out and check to see if they have any valve cover warpage. Check the link for pics.

i could see how a wrap could possibly do this... but just from looking at the way it's made... i don't THINK the heat shield would have caused that... i could be completely wrong tho... just because it seems like the shield is there to further absorb the heat but can also dissipate it because of how there are various openings that allow are to flow around the pad... what it COULD be is if you drive your car hard... the heat in the metal (i'm assuming it's metal) of the heat shield is absorbing enough heat to melt the plastic... once again i think it's unlikely... but it could be it...
Just an observation only from your photos. Looks like the overheating from the ice barrier (from your other thread) is likely the cause of the melting cover but the heat shield may have contributed to the melting by concentrating the heat at that point.
No problems with my M7 heat shield of 9 months vintage and I track the car so I have high temps in the hood (but no overheating).

I said I overheated due to the snow. When the MINI tech started taking my car apart, he took the heatshield off and found the melted area. It was a concern that it might have been the shield. But, if Slinger688 tracks his and hasn't had issues it must have been the overheat. I was just looking into it, because I wanted to make sure it wasn't due to the heatshield. I mean to be honest, once you put it on your going to forget about it. And if it was melting the valve cover, you wouldn't even really know it until you had problems. So I just wanted some others that have had it for a good amount of time to check their's. If it is all good, when I get my ride back I will put the shield back on. Just looking out for my fellow MINI peeps!!
Masterd78,
Thank you for bringing this potential issue to our attention. I will be checking the heat shield more often from this point forward. I am starting to think that the wrap may be a better option as it keeps the heat contained.
