Forget MPG, it's GPM that matters

as in Gallons Per Month. I know many people track their MPG and are all happy when the reach a new high, but I'm more interested in my GPM. I have been making changes to get them down. I'm at about 30 GPM now or about 1 gallon per day.

I moved last year to a place that is closer to work, and one mile from a train that I take to work a few days a week and I also work from home a day or two a week and sometimes ride with a co-worker. I can walk to the downtown of the little town I live in and I ride the train to the city.

I still go for the occasional drive in the country on the weekends in the Mini and sometimes drive it to work. I'm really pleased that I have cut my average miles per month to less that 1/2 of what they were.

I'm wondering if anyone else tracks their Gallons Per Month and has done anything to reduce them.

Well, I use about 12-14 GPM. Only fill up once every 4-5 weeks.

They need to hurry up and make fuel cell cars mainstream so that the average "driving is just for transportation"* guy switches over, and leaves more gas for the passionate driver.

*I'm talking about soccer moms, and people who drive a Ford Taurus.

This.

Had my MINI for about 8 months now and I've gone through $1,581 of fuel. Approximately 550 gallons of fuel. So 68.75 gallons per month. 16,500 miles, so about a 30mpg average.

But hey, it's just numbers. I bought the MINI because I wanted to drive it, not because I wanted to drive less.

Motor on!

You may find that a fuel-cell powered car will potentially blow the doors off an internal combustion powered car. An electric car powered by a fuel cell can deliver 100% torque at 1 rpm, and an electric motor can wind-up incredibly quickly. It's all in how that fuel-cell / electric powertrain is set up.

Yes, there will probably be Prius-type high mileage models, but the potential for incredibly quick electric cars should not be overlooked.

I like the noise and vibration of gas engines, and I don't think they'll make a manual transmission fuel cell vehicle.

I went 32 days between fill-ups recently. Just driving conservatively, not like a granny (though I couldn't help but get on it once in a while) I averaged 33 MPG. That was driving to and from work (about 12 miles a day total), every day with the occasional trip to the store in between. This month I'm back down to about 28 MPG. Either month, I was, and still am totally in love with this car. 08 MCS manual.

i dont even think about it. My last car was 5 liter V8... im on cloud 9 with this thing. I drive and I drive a lot (11K miles since Oct) and all i need to know is im not stopping nearly as much to fill up!

Basically if gas money is really that important, I shouldnt be driving a $30K car

dont get me wrong i dont like to burn lots of fuel though...Id love to move close to my work and walk if i could!
