Custom Magnaflow vs Invidia Q300 Exhausts Video!

So there has been a lot of comparisons between the Invidia Q300 cat back exhaust vs getting a custom Magnaflow setup.

Yesterday we had a MINI Dyno Day @ Swift Motorsports in CT- and my buddy on NEMini has an Invidia Q300 on his R56 (similarly modded to mine), just exhaust and intake (+ his boost tubes). He's had it before I got my exhaust and had me contemplating which to get, as I hadn't heard a Magnaflow in person for the R56 yet.

Anyhow, heres a rev comparison (sorry, no flyby comparisons... maybe next time?) Check it out.

My exhaust (left) custom 2.5" magnaflow from DP back, resless
His exhaust (right) invidia Q300 2.5" cat back

I like the custom setup better sounds deeper. How much did the custom setup cost seeing how I'm probably going to do the same. I was going to go to the dyno day but something came up I have never been to swift motorsport my buddy told me they are awesome. I emailed them 3 weeks ago asking if they could dyno tune my car but the never responded back.

I'm sure if you give them a call you'll get a response =]
I believe regular pricing for 3 pulls is 75$ for FWD- though they threw in a 4th pull for free for me, so ya never know.

The custom setup ran me ~360$ I believe. very cheap imo for a dpback setup. I did get a resonator (20x4" magnaflow) thats sitting in my room right now and I have yet to install... which set me back another 50$ and will be 25$ for install.
I love it still regardless

=p waiting for the video to finalize rendering in youtube then there'll be a post with the #'s and vid =p

dont get excited though, it was a dynodynamics dyno.. aka heart breaker dyno for its conservative numbers

Wow very nice pricing at $360 for a DP-back exhaust, how did you do the bending and what material did you use?

BTW I love the sound.

If you put a magnaflow resonator in the magnaflow system, you can get the sound down like the invidia.

I was just gonna say, I bet the Invidia would sound just like the other if you were to not run the resonator section that comes with it.

Also, it would be a much better representation to get a video of them under load. I made a video of the Invidia when I first got it, but I think I'll try to get another one since its opened up quite a bit now that I've had it for about 10k miles.

Most of the people who are in this market are 30 + so i see them going with an invidia sound vs the straight open magnaflow setup.

Personally I would go with a magnaflow and a resonator so you get less drone in the cabin.

With no cats then for sure with a resonator because it will be much more aggressive.

If you got with a magnaflow resonator im not sure how much it'll help with sound, maybe a bit with droning as it'll put a node in the resonance wave to minimize it, but magnaflow res's are pretty straight through (im looking at mine now). The 2nd cat makes more of a difference in quieting it down vs a resonator imo.

and if you check my youtube videos i have the magnaflow under load, and there are other invidias under load on youtube, though i have not done a side to side comparison.

for the price i did go with aluminum, but seeing that I wash my car weekly and that includes the underbody, i dont see a problem anytime in the near future. my brothers been running his b6a4 with dual aluminized catbacks for 5 years now in this new england weather and hes been fine- we both have the same ocd of washing, btw. =p

magnaflow resonators make a world of difference on sound on a car no doubt!

The key is the type of packing they use in the resonator. Just because its straight through does not mean it wont silence much.

Yea, the Invidia deletes the 2nd cat...its resonator is straight through, as well as the muffler.

you're right... my mistake, i said it was 2nd cat back, its been a while since i looked up the system. sorry!
but yeah, as much as i know a resonator would help, im not sure it would be as quiet as the invidia...
but maybe its my mind telling me since i like it louder

Ah right ian, forgot to post up my vid once it processed.

171whp / 190ftlb for me exactly
though, continued runs would of kept the #s climbing...
carl's ran 168, 170, 171, 172, 175 in 5 runs... interestingly enough.

keep in mind this is on a dynodynamics dyno, among the more conservative dynos

.....AND... my 18" jcws are 23.3lbs each... blah!

Thanks Hector (right?) !
Once I get some suspension mods in, I'm going to be looking for your DP (catted though), at which point i'll probably need to throw on that resonator sitting in my room...

Jedi Master to you.

THe catted DP is not like a huge difference over stock, its just a tad louder.

Your exhaust, who did it? Is it press bent?

me? i'm on 205/40/18... stock JCW R105 size

and to exhaust depot- yes, unfortunately, my two downfalls, (well, at least one, i can deal with aluminum), but it is indeed pressbent, which i found out just how much more that restricts only after i got it all done and put on. I had a referred (from another mini owner who has a autoshop) to a muffler shop in worcester, MA.
I've been thinking, that its possibly why my whp #'s were slightly lower than other similarly modded r56's from the dyno day... @ 2.5" piping press bent it gets restricted to around 2" or so doesnt it? =\ which is less than stock... grr.

and now that i saw you have those pre mandrel bent pipes... i woulda gotten that if they were available when i did the exhaust.

regardless, it still sounds sweet i guess (trying to make myself happier now)

Its aluminized. Its steel dipped in aluminum to prevent corrosion .

Its 1.9" at the bends. Dont feel bad, 3" is 2.4" at the bends.

Thanks for the info!
