Forgot to order the rear fogs...

....for my new MCS, so I ordered some OE lights through outmotoring.com. and though they don't serve as real foglights (not wired), they sure look darn good.....and they were only $59.

If you find you've failed to order the rear fogs, don't despair....buy em online and snap em in. Took me every bit of 30 seconds to install em.

That's good news, but another reason why people order them is so they do not have a missing toggle switch.

But there's a solution to the missing switch. Why not just order it and put it in place. It won't do anything, but atleast it will look complete.

Check out item #6 on this link below. It's called OPERATING LEVEL and is part #: 64113452459. Sure looks like all you need to fill in that missing switch, right?

Over two years later, that's the only thing I would change if I had to reorder my MINI. I remember making a conscious decision not to order them because Houston isn't a big fog area. About 3 months later (and too late), someone mentioned rain. THAT we have.

I also forgot to order them but it's not the missing lights that bothers me, it's the empty toggle switch! I'll be doing the install myself at some point, when I'm brave enough to disassemble half the dash. You need the lights, the missing switch (and the toggle panel cover if the lack of an icon bothers you) AND they still need to be activated at the dealer. However, my dealer wants $600+ for the install and I just can't justify that for what was really a $100 mistake.

I'm just curious...what does it look like if a toggle switch is missing? Does it look that bad, or shouldn't I worry? I wasn't planning on ordering the rear fogs...

It doesn't look THAT bad, but every time you look down at that toggle bank you'll see an empty space and you'll regret not spending that extra $100. One of my goals for my second MINI was to make sure the bank was full, and I still forgot when it came to doing the configuration with my MA. Bummer....

Just my opinion but the rear fogs would be useless to me. I don't mind the fill in plugs in the rear bumper on my JCW aero kit, but the missing toggle does p!ss me off. MINI could have just left a dummy in the slot rather than trying to coerce you into buying an option just to make the center stack complete.

I don't have them and I don't even notice the missing toggle switch. In reality how much time do you actually spend looking at the toggle bank? And it seems such a petty thing to get so "pissed" about. You should be looking at the road and having a blast driving. And rear fogs are pretty much useless where I live so I can easily live without a switch. Why spend $100 if I don't have to? Plenty of other things to spend that money on.

I can't speak for the S, but if you're ordering a Cooper... get the rear fog. It looks a little strange without it. The exterior look bothered me more than the lack of a toggle switch, but it's nice to see a full bank of toggles.

Also, it came in handy once when I had a tailgater... I just flashed it on and off briefly.

I agree, I don't notice it at all. I have two missing switches because I don't have a sunroof. I guess my navi takes the eyes off of looking down at the toggles.

I'm installing my missing toggle and the new switch cover this weekend. Already have the lights in.

I don't notice the switch either, but carsncars has it right--the rear does look a little funny without it.

Besides, you never know when or where you might need it. You have snow, right? I've wanted to make an occasional tailgater back off, too.

The missing toggle and light fillers look dumb.

Let us know how that goes, because I'm going to do the same soon enough.

I don't think I'll be ordering the rear fogs, I absolutely HATE it when I get behind (usually) an Audi or MB and it has it's rear fogs on because the driver doesn't know how to operate a switch.

Hey Ferrrari....I dont use mine either, but I chose the $100 option just to fill the toggle switches up in the center stack. The center stack looks a bit odd with a toggle switch missing! I will show you on saturday....

I installed it this evening and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Took an hour because I was being very careful. This does not include the time I spent installing the iPod interface that I did at the same time.

When I was putting everything back together, it seemed like I did not really have to take off the key sensor and the trim above the glove box as these are behind the center console. If I were to re do it, I'd leave those and see if it makes a difference.

Word of warning: the tabs behind the side center console trim are sharp, so protect the center console when removing the passenger side. I almost scratched mine but caught it in time.

I now have all my switches and will reprogram someday when my car is in for something else. I have to get the iPod programmed too but at least now I can charge my iPod and play through the AUX.

This is the link to the photo when taken apart. Also, I recommend Morristown Mini for the parts as they beat everyone's price. Only 70.18 for the cover. So far I spent $135 ($100 option) for this upgrade and still need to program it.

They need to come out with the plastic insert that's all one piece without the little cutouts. I would buy that instead the "fake" fog lights. I like the look of it all black...

Please let us know how the reprogram goes. Hopefully the dealer actually does it nowadays.

Agree 100%, rear fogs are super annoying if not used properly.

You guys are making me feel empty. I did not order cold weather or rear fog so I have a empty space for the rear fog and blanks on the side for the seat heaters

I ordered these lights from OutMotoring.com as well. How do you pop off the black inserts so you can put the lights in? I crawled under the car and felt around but could not figure out how to pop out the inserts where the fog lights go.
