Is my NAV going out?

I've got a 2003 S that is suffering from the display screen for the NAV and computer display not always "displaying". I start the car, screen is black with no Mini logo, no display whatsoever. Then after 5 minutes or so it'll suddenly come on. Anyone know what could be causing this?

I have not had that issue.. mine is 06 S, but sometimes I do see lines that actually run up the screen, there are like three of them.. I should get it to the dealership to see just what is up with it..

Mine did that about 3 years ago. Since it was under warranty, I took it in and they replaced the entire nav box.

Then about 3 months ago, same thing started to happen. But the problem went away after about 3 weeks. Now working fine.

I suspect it is cold temperature related.

The delay with the screen display may be an indication that your battery is dying. This has been documented several times in the forums and I would look at getting the battery replaced. I have an '06 and at around 3 years/36K miles my Nav started to delay up to about 10 seconds before displaying. I already knew about this from the forums but others had mentioned delays of 20 to 30 seconds, so I thought I didn't have to handle it right away. But within a couple of weeks my battery suddenly died -- car wouldn't start. After jumping, the battery still went dead again within a day. All the problems including the Nav delay went away with a new battery.

Thanks, guys! It has been cold, that might be the problem. Also, regarding the battery, I replaced it about a year ago at the dealer. I'll take it back and see if that is the problem, if so they'll replace it, or I will.

Since the Nav for the '02-'03 cars were totally different (CD based) than the later Gen1 units (DVD based), you will need to weigh responses accordingly.

Okay, you've jogged my memory about this. I can't believe my brain is so overflowing with MINI trivia. There was indeed a temperature problem with early Nav units, and apparently a software fix for it. See this thread: http://www.mini2.com/forum/faults-fi...ystem-fix.html
