Rear seat delete project!

Thought I'd share my latest mod. I was fortunate enough to get a rear seat delete kit from a fellow club member and decided to customize it a bit with a little carpet action ! I'm impressed with how it came out ! Working with carpet was a new one for me although I must admit, it wasn't that difficult ! I was unable to find carpet that matched the OEM carpet so, I went with a Peppered grey color which I think really works well !

Here's a few of pictures of how it came out.

Looks really good! how loud is the exhaust in the cab since you took out the seats? i have been thinking of doing the delete thing but have a Borla Sport exhaust & there is a noticable diff in the noise level with the seats up and down, i actually scrapped the idea because of the noise level i anticipate....

Well, I run with a Milltek which is not quite as loud I've heard (pun intended). I pulled the seats out before I drove over to my friends house yesterday to pick the RSD up and to be honest, I didn't find the exhaust to be excessively loud at all ! On long trips with the seats flipped down there is of course a bit more noise then when they are up ! I had some acoustic sound deadening foam that I fitted on the underside of the panel and a couple of pieces laid on top of the gas tanks, The carpet should also help with any added noise from the exhaust. I'll mess around with it as needed !

I haven't taken the car out for a test drive yet because I just replaced my windshield this morning, I'll take it out tomorrow morning on my coffee run and see what's up ! This all might be for not, I've yet to tell my wife about the project ! I'm sure her thoughts will be along the lines of "why take the seats out when you can just flip down the seat backs" ! Oh well, this will just add to the long list of mods she questions !

Thanks, I'm a bit surprised I didn't screw it up !
I've got a couple of ideas brewin on how to continue the shelf, it would be nice to have a "unseen" cubby back there ! ! I was quite surprised at how "flexible" the center is, I'm working on something that will stiffen up the middle section !

SHE LIKES IT, SHE LIKES IT ! LOL ! Thought the Wife would disapprove of the RSD mod but, she thinks it nice and she complemented me on how well the carpet came out !

Took the car out for a quick spin and yes, the exhaust burble a bit more pronounced but the exhaust note is certainly not too extreme in the cabin.

Someone did a good write-up on making a rear-seat-delete that went all the way back and was level. I have been searching but can't find where I saw it.

I'm going to play around with a couple of ideas today to continue the panel all the way to the rear. I'm thinking a panel with a hinged lid, something that would flip up and create a barer for rear storage and when flipped down would create a level surface and hidden storage !

Yesterday I completed the RSD with a extension panel that extends the flat floor of the RSD all the way to the rear. As a bonus, the extension panel creates a nice little storage cubby hole.

With the rear panel !

Without !

Looks good

I found the link I was looking for. It's a thread with brief write-up by jonathanfaber.

It looks like you came up with something similar. Good work.

:::EDIT:::
If you copy and paste this link it will work. For some reason when you clicked the link before it would eliminate the "interior-exterior" piece of the address.

WOW, that turned out fantastic!!! Well done. May I ask you how much, all said and done, this set you back? This is BY FAR and without a doubt the cleanest RSD I've ever seen. That extension panel fits perfectly and it seems like it makes the back a little more useable for hauling stuff.

Qestion....can you make one for me???

btw, if noise is problem with the RSD, you can stuff sound deadening material (foam, fiberglass) in the vents at the rear of the rear section covered by Paulie's extension. They vent directly above the exhaust, so they are a source of a lot of road and exhaust noise. I've yet to discover a downside of blocking them off...

Wow man that came out perfect! I have the standard seat delete but not real happy with since it is so thin and flimsy.

Do you have a template?

Just got back from MOTD today and funny thing is, me and another guy discussed this mod while I was there. Thanks for posting your results. I think I will be following your lead. Looks real good man.

I love the idea of doing a RSD that makes it look as if there never were back seats, but I haven't seen anything even remotely affordable. (Read: I can't afford to buy the GP stuff!) I guess I'll just keep my eyes open and my fingers crossed for a solution.

On another note, I have a diy rsd that I've been really happy with. Having had it for a couple years now, there are a few improvements I'd like to make. First I want it to hinge it so that it can stay lifted for easy access to storage. The second fix is something I haven't seen anybody mess with. I want to put some sort of angle on the front edge so that the front seats still recline fully. Anyone seen anything like this?

If you want to dress it up a bit you can use a sheet of Carbon Fiber cut to fit. I trimed the edges with door edge guard from Kragens Auto.

Here's mine! My dad was the mastermind behind this one.

The best part is there is now space for a donut spare tire. No more crappy RFT's for me!
