Increased horsepower post-mods

How do you measure the increased horsepower after making modifications?

Or the old tried and true Butt Dyno, but they are known to measure the net gains a bit on the high side.........

Does anyone have a Scan Gauge II 3-in-1 computer? It purports to show HP--does it work? Comparisons to Dyno runs?

Out of the box is does not show HP but it is possible to derive a HP readout through the X-gauge feature and some black voodoo magic with numbers. I doubt it would be terribly accurate though, I've never personally tried it with my scangauge. Most HP readouts like this try and determine HP using a vehicle weight you put in and vehicle speed over time. This only gives an accurate reading if the vehicle weights and all other factors remain the same between modifications so an intake manifold that makes no extra HP but is 10lbs lighter will show a HP increase.
Also, I had to disconnect my scangauge on the dyno since they plugged the computer into the OBDII port for the runs.

Ultimately, I would like to get a faster car, which is the reason for HP and the mods. So what is important to me is 0-60, 1/4 mile and track lap times etc. Others may be different objectives for their car.

Of course, I have also been recently told in this forum that 0-60 and actual tests does not matter in mods because the Mini is FWD.

Trap speed in the 1/4 mile (pending consistent weather conditions) can be a useful indicator of increased HP if you don't have access to a dyno. Although neither really matters if you don't have a baseline run (1/4 mile or dyno) from when your car didn't have mods.

Yes... it really is what you want..! The Dyno is good, as well as the 1/4 mile MPH. Also My 06 is not a posi so my 0-60 can really go out the window thru tire spin. If you have an open diff... then the more power the more the single tire smoke!! lol

But looking at the Hiway runs.. blowing past other "Fast Cars" it is worth all the mods you can stuff into the 1.6 , yes?? My 06 210 WHP is a fun drive.. on the Dragon this year, it will be a great 1-wheel tire burner..( though that really isnt what I'd like..).. Build it the way you want .. SOP is always the bottom line when you are driving.. There are some costly mods out there so choose wisely.. cool??

Just me.................................
