Finally installed my boost tubes

I just installed my Cold/Hot-Side Boost Tubes. The Cold Side took forever, but the Hot Side was actually quite simple. Four hours of install time, three of it being Cold Side.

Raw acceleration has increased quite noticeably, but there isn't any of the sound increases I've read being reported. Perhaps I'm sensitive to such increases, I'm not sure, but the power is definitely there.

I have all of the ALTA Intake mods installed now, plus the intercooler... here are some pictures! It is on my wife's old, old, camera, so bear with me:

Overview of Engine Bay (Hot Side Boost Tube ALTA Logo is Upside down!):

The ALTA Parts Positively Glow in the Morning Sun!

My Hard Labour Finally Complete... for now

I like to keep the engine somewhat clean... makes it easier to see what's wrong!

I know many people have installed things, but this is the first car I've ever worked on... I'm only twenty, and I was scared to death installing these parts and the trimming involved, if only because I spent quite a bit on the car itself. Ah, well, enjoy!

P.S. Hurry up, tuners, with your ECU solution... these parts would really come alive, I'm sure!

Looks great! Knowing that you did it yourself is worth all the extra time it takes.

Thanks! It sure does feel better. I feel like I accomplished something, and that I love my car that much more. I don't think I would feel that way if I took it to some mechanic.

i installed mines too, it took me alot less though...but anyway.. too bad alta doesnt have an option in their cold side tube to get rid of that Y thats supplying air to the nosie generator, i for instance have removed it and dont need that Y ( just creates turbulance ), and i bet many other people removed it too......ALTA what you think?

PS: very high quality material and craftsmanship , well worth the money

Yeah, took me a lot of time due to my large hands... they just were not made to bend like that. It would be nice to have at least a plug for that hole. It is silly for a pointless tube without any sound generator at the end. Looks silly, if you ask me.

yeah, at least they should provide a nice fitted plug for that hole, i scoured pep boys and the only thing i could come up with was that expandable rubber plug with a nut , when you tighten the nut it expands, once i expanded it inside the Y i wrapped it again with the provided hose clamp.....

PS: i got huge hands too, only mine were trained for small holes, errr small spaces

i've used a high density rubber plug i found at Lowe's (in plumbing i think) for sealing holes in the air intake system on my motorcycle after i removed all the emissions stuff. its smaller at one and added a little liquid gasket to help the seal.

I installed mine last night. I clocked in at about 4.5 hours and I also installed a Helix 13 BOV.

If you too are planning on doing this Adam is right about getting a bent awl tool. If you can't find one locally, order it! Without it, there would have been no way I would have got the cold side boost tube off and installed the Alta one in its place. I admit there was an "oh s***" moment when I thought I wasn't going to get the Alta tube to fit on the throttle body, but when I rememoved the whole sound generator assembly that gave me a lot more room to stick my arm in the engine bay. I used the bent awl to slowly creep the tube on the throttle body and then with brute force got the tube on securely. Using mechanics gloves with rubber on the palms REALLY helps too and protected my hands wonderfully.

This was my first DIY project on my R56 besides hardwiring my Valentine V1, and it's definitely a good feeling to DIY. Being that I'm a cheap Polish 24 year old, the thought of knowing I saved $360 in labor makes it all worthwhile!

easy with the generalization of society, I'm Polish too, and I'm not cheap, but I do the work I know I can perform and I pay for something I can't.
