I purchased a new set of wheels and want to move my Goodyear Eagle 205/45r17 run flat tires. I have been told that it is very difficult to remove these tires and remount them because of the kevlar RF sidewalls. It is pretty easy to damage tires and or wheels. Anyone have experience to contribute? Thanks

I'll Piggy Back on your question as I too have runflats. They are mounted on 17 White Lights from Mini. I was thinking about getting steel rims for my snows as it is getting to be that time of year here in Connecticut.

The fact that the tires might be damaged upon remounting on the Mini Rims gives me one more reason to get extra rims.

With your zipcode I can help find an installer. Its true that unqualified techs can destroy the bead seat areas in mounting and dismounting. I allways look for people who are "goodyear EMT" certified. This means they can work on the C5 corvette - witch has much larger and trickeir runflats to mount, making Mini a walk in the park!

I do runflats every day onmounting and balacing line, we sell packages mounted and balaced with all needed hardware, so when you recive them you are good to go! Let me know.

I had a similar issue when I needed to get my runflat repaired. I used Tire Rack's installer recommendation list to find a shop near me (CT). This is a great resource, but talk to the shop first! The shop did a great job of fixing the tire, but butchered the rim. As Alex suggests find a shop on their list that has qualified technicians.

Boy am i lucky my brother works at an Audi dealership which has the latest machine to both balance and and also install runflats, so if I ever need to change tires you know where I am headed. They had to get this machine to balance the tires for the new A8 and the RS6.

Just got my car back from dealer. Run Flat went flat. They threw on a new Pirelli Performance for $325. Never called to ask me for OK. Never a mention when they called to say car was ready that there would be any charges.

No effort made to contact Pirelli. No pro rated consideration. 6500 miles.

Is this normal?

I just had a new Goodyear runflat put on to replace one that had picked up a screw. The Goodyear shop near my house did a fantastic job. Not a single scratch on my rim.

I spoke to them and they said they are one of the newest Goodyear shops, meaning they've got the latest equipment. There is special equipment required to work on the runflats that not all places have. My shop is apparently the only one in a 50 mile radius. I'm just happy they're close!

My advice to you would be to look for a newer shop that's probably more up to date. Good luck!

Was this in Mt. View, Ca? Sounds like I had the same problem but it took the dealership two days to change the tire (at firs they tried to tell me the rim was bent) and they still ended up having to send it out to another tire shop. I also got my rim back all nicked up. I'm sending this to the BAR.

I'm in central PA (17603) - trying to decide whether to go to a "winter set" of rims or just change tires on my 16" 5-stars.

Well Alex I've been thinking about buying a set of winter runflats from you to go with my spare 5-star rims. I went on tirerack.com and searched for places that could do runflats. (zip 02458)
Well, sure enough, Goodyear in Boston says they could do runflats. But listen to the price they quoted me: $72 per wheel to mount, plus $11.95 to balance! Including valve stem, $348 is significantly more than $80.....

Where did you get that $20 a corner from!? (or, if you could help me find a shop qualified to do the runflats in the Boston area for $25 a corner or so, I will order a set of runflat snows from you right away)

How much are everyone paying to have their runflats mounted?

$80 for runflats is VERY optimistic. Just this morning I called around to have new non-runflats installed on new rims. Average was approximately $100 for the corners. Prices were much higher than the prices listed on your site for the recommended installers.

Not talking runflats now but... in my area (Western PA) cost to mount AND balance is $7.50 per tire. Guess some advantage living in depressed area.

Alex's recommended place here in town charged me $17.00 to mount and balance one (a Pirelli) off the car. If someone's quoting much more the $25, you're getting hosed!

I had two runflats replaced (front ones worn at 25k miles). I just had the local gas station/shop do it - the place around the corner that we used to take all of our vehicles to get repaired at. Not only did they do an excellent job, they only charged me $48 and that's with tax and disposal fees.

Alex:

My new '04 MCS came equipped with Dunlop 16" RF tires. My zipcode is 33129 and would like to know of any qualified RF tire repair facilities in my area, should the need arises.

Thanks a bunch.
