H/K woofer - tweeter crossover frequency found
I know I've run into the question on where the crossover between the woofer and tweeter is many times while browsing this forum, and I've never seen a definitive answer. Since I've been playing with the idea of replacing my tweeters lately, I thought it was best I find out for myself. I have a nice set of "test tones" that I downloaded a while back while troubleshooting the system in my old 944 - It's basically just 15 second loops of specific frequencies. So all I had to do was play different freq's until I found the switch point...
My results were as follows: The woofer played up to 1KHz, and the mid/tweeter played from 2KHz and up. I could not pinpoint the exact crossover because I didn't have anything between 1k and 2k, but I hope that this information helps. To put it into perspective, most of the aftermarket tweeters I've seen supposedly don't reproduce down to 1k (though I've never actually tested them) - This means you may end up with a hole in the reproducible frequency spectrum of your system if you only replace tweeters.
NOTE: These results were obtained on a '05 H/K stereo system, which has a differently designed tweeter than the non-H/K system. Your results may vary.

Yes, and this proves why. Personally, I'm of the opinion that the H/K can't really be improved on without a total overhaul - I was just playing with the idea since my tweeters occasionally go all funky on me (dealer marked it up to bad source, so no free replacement for me
