Need Help with OEM iPod interface!
Hi: I am new to the forum. I am the proud new owner of a 2008 Blue MCS Cabrio I picked up two weeks ago. I love it and am really excited about it and although I've never owned an Ipod, I just got one and now I want to add the interface. So, I found an OEM unit on ebay and bought it last week. It said it was for all MCS 2007 and later, so I figured it would work. Now I think I messed up. Here's why:
I thought my car was an R56, now I learn that it is not. Anyway, the part number of the interface I bought is 65 11 0 033 959, which is the ipod Mini OEM ipod interface for 2007 and 2008 (R56?). Can I use this one, or did I buy the wrong one? Anybody who can help me before I start tearing parts out of my car to try to install this? Oh, by the way, I have the H/K system with the single CD player (no changer) and the Aux port in the glovebox.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Dave

Congratulations on your new cabrio! You did buy the wrong interface. Your car is an R52 (1st gen MINI cabrio). According to the Morristown MINI accessories site, the part # for the R56 interface is 65 11 0 035 959 (one digit different from the number you wrote, a mistype?). The OEM interface for your car is # 65 11 0 035 964.
That said, the OEM iPod interface (for 1st gen MINI) is primitive with very limited function. If your car does not have the Navigation system, a better choice for iPod interface is DICE: http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...9016da39fd0024

This has probably been asked a dozen times or more..
I have an R53 with Nav and own an OEM iPod kit that I have never installed. Is there a better integration with the NAV in a certain interface or is a certain model of DICE the best one for this application. Other options available?
Thanks!
Jim

For iPod integration with Nav, the only solution is Intravee: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ctory-nav.html

All MINI cabrio available up until now (model year 2005-2008) are 1st gen.
The 2009 2nd gen cabrio (R57) was officially introduced in Detroit only last week (see MotoringFile) and will start shipping in a couple of months.
