i'm gonna make this short...
this morning on my way to work i was rear ended and was pushed into the car in front of mine. my car is in terrible shape. the whole rear end is destroyed. the passenger door is unable to be opened. the front bumper is messed up. the rear right wheel is twisted to the right. i have a bad feeling that the car is totaled. the car was un drivable. it was towed by the state on a flatbed truck. i'm in a ton of pain, my lower back is really wrenched. any of you guys with experience in accidents/claims could offer me any advice, i'd really appreciate it.....please just comment with advice, i already know how bad you guys will feel for me!

thanks...
nfo is mini-less!

I'm you're ok, hope the pain goes away soon. Sorry to hear about your MINI. Keep us posted on how the insurance handles it and what you decide to do if it's totalled.

nfo, friend...I am totally speechless ....so sorry to hear about your accident and the apparent loss of your car. Glad to hear that in the midst of your physical pain you are still in one piece. I believe this is the second time you get rear ended in 3 or 4 months? Incredible!

I wish you a very speedy recovery and would suggest getting in touch with an Attorney. Hope your insurance company will cover and total your car....maybe that MCS you've been thinking about is coming a lot sooner than planned

Anyway, keep in touch. More details please..what hit you..how? Airbags deployed? have pics of the car?

Take care.

Wow, nfo, I feel sorry for you man. At least you still have the CD.

It sounds like it's totaled. If the wheel is 'all twisted' then the suspension is probably jacked up and maybe the frame, and whenever the frame is warped even an inch they will just total it. Sorry.

As for advice, I havent had any experience with such a thing, but maybe you should get a lawyer asap seeing as this isnt your fault (seems that way) and you've been hurt. You only have a certain amount of time to take legal action on the parties at fault till you loose your chance. You deserve some compensation for your back and your car.

Hope everything gets resolved fast and you feel better man. Just pop that CD in and lay back, that's what I do and it really helps.

Bryan

Oh, MAN! It always hurts so much to read when an MCOer's car gets crunched. nfo, you know we all feel for you and hope for the best (which, unfortunately, might be a totaled car and a new '04). I guess the good part is that this wasn't your fault, so it's somebody else who'll be paying to make you and your car better. Yikes, I hate to hear that your back is already giving you pain! I assume you've already been to have it checked out? Anyway I doubt I'm making you feel any better, but I'm really, really, really sorry to hear that this happened. Best of luck to you!!!

Oh crap!

As an occasional crasher, I should have a lot of advice to give, but it turns out I really don't. If I could suggest anything at all, I'd say to always check on what your insurance company and your car's finance company are up to. It should all get settled

Did you get GAP insurance when you bought the car? I had it on my Civic when I killed it last year, and since it was a total loss, the car loan was totally settled, and I didn't pay a penny more to the finance company. It's easily the best $400 I've ever paid, and I definitely did the same on my MCS.

Overall, I hope everything works out, and as has been repeated frequently here on MCO, stay healthy, because cars can be replaced. Even MINIs.

Hell, just get a better one. That'll show 'em!

Was the driver that caused the accident cool or a jerk?

My wife and I were involved in a pretty bad head-on collesion just before we got our MINI (some idiot turned left infront of us). The first thing is get to the hospital and get checked out. We ended up being okay but it was important to have a hospital visit documented incase injuries cropped in the days ahead.

Best of luck. If you need a MINI fix in a week or so let me know - I'll swing down to the city for a quick road trip!

nfo-
I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune. That's rotten.
First thing is your health- medical evaluation and contact your insurance company and let them know you are hurt. Might need to start some therapy or pain medication right away. If you cannot work then don't otherwise you might get more injured. Often trouble comes up in the next day or two so sit tight and watch for more pain/symptoms.

Hopefully you will recover with time and therapy. It doesn't sound so good for your MINI.

Just sunday on the way to the SCCA event I was first at crossing an intersection with a green light at only 20 mph when right in front of me was a large commercial size van running the red only a few feet away. It nearly took off the front of my car but ended up being a total miss. I'd be in the right and my MINI would have been toast. So scary.

I count my lucky stars. I didn't even have time to tap my brakes.

nfo, be sure to get a copy of the police report, especially with the officer's name who wrote it and filed it. Make sure that the fact of this idiot was on his cell phone when he hit you is included in the report. I dunno 'bout ILL law, but in MD, if you rear-end somebody, regardless of damage or injury, it's automatically your fault. Get duplicates of everything, including doctor visit receipts, any outlay of cash for meds, and/or any hospital visit. If you have all your ducks in a row, so to speak, then your claim should go smoothly.

Now, I know you asked us not to, but tough beans

I'm so sorry about your car, and I hope you're going to be okay.

Oh you poor thing!

I was in an auto accident that left me with permanent damage. I found the very best lawyer who is in Santa Monica, CA. I don't know where you are - your profile doesn't say?

Expect to feel even worse in about 5 days when your body starts relaxing. Right now it's all wound up to keep your spine from incurring further damage. Best thing to do is STAY HOME and sit upright, make no sudden movements, and start a journal about the accident and how you feel every day from now on. (anything writtten, dated and signed is accepted as fact in the courtroom.) Ice is better than heat for the first five days, then heat is better.

Also keep all empty bottles of any pain pills or other medication, prescribed and over the counter, receipts too.

Get yourself taken care of medically - a regular MD and a chiropractor both is ideal - then start shopping around for lawyers. Get one wtih plenty of experience - get referrences even. Get one you feel comfortable with. Let the lawyer take care of everything so you can concentrate on healing.

Get a statement from your boss about how many days you missed at work.

If you need advice as to how to pick a good chiropractor feel free to PM me. Lots of chiro's just want to make money but a good chiro is a true godsend.

Most people have insurance up to 100k for damage liability, so don't expect to get more than that, and expect to lose 1/4th to your lawyer and expect to have all your medical expenses paid out of it too. You'll get the remainder.

Use the AutoTrader to argue the value of your MINI and prove how much money you should get for it. That will come out of any settlement you get too.

I think that's about it!

First off, I am glad to see you in one piece.

I hope you get this straightened out quickly and to your satisfaction. MINIs are replaceable, people are not.

Keep us posted on your progress, I hope health-wise everything is okay.

Wow the stratus looks messed up. I dread to think what your mini looked like.
I always wondered how the mini would hold up to such a major crash. Mainly because i have my daughter in the back seat a lot.
What condition was the back seat area of the mini after the impact?
I hope you feel better soon.

the mini held up very well concidering the speed at which the stratus nailed me.
the rear bumper was destroyed, but the trunk and back seat held up perfectly.
i can say with confidence that your daughter is very safe in the mini.
i can also say that if i wasn't wearing my seat belt, i'd have gone through the windshield.
buckle up my friends!
