R50/53 NFO's car's 1 year anniversary....DEAD
I see that you've already received a lot of good advice. I would add a suggestion: keep a detailed journal of the events relating to your accident. Such as who you talked to (insurance, lawyer, doctor), names of everyone, exactly what you were told by each (you'll never remember later). Equally importantly, record how you feel physically everyday. It will be months before this is all sorted out, and you want to have a record of your pain and recovery. If, god forbid, it ever gets to court, your credibility is greatly enhanced if you have a written record.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Advice:
Make sure you are comfortable with your lawyer. It is not unreasonable to contact several lawyers and make sure you ask about all the cost details. (How do they handle their fees? How are their expenses calculated?).
Continue to follow your doctor's advice; you don't want any responsibility for prolonging a condition due to violating his/her treatment protocol (e.g., not going for physical therapy).
Keep complete records (including time and mileage for travel to medical appointments).
Be careful what you post to forums (in legal proceedings words on the internet may come back to surprise you).
Never acknowledge you may be even 1 percent liable (this is true for all accidents).
"The driver was distracted by his/her cell phone." "The stupid driver was chatting on the phone, instead of paying attention to his/her driving." "I'm just relieved that he/she wasn't trying to eat a burger and read the newspaper at the same time." These statements should accompany any comments you make...
Don't accept any initial offer from the insurance company ("we can settle this for $10 or 15k if we don't involve the lawyers and go through the expense of a trial..."
