Dent but paint is broken, what to do?

A few weeks ago I was driving along and I hard a loud bang on my passenger side door, so hard you could actually feel it..... like something hit it.....I pulled over and there was this dent. ahhhhh

I don't know if some kid threw a rock, he would of had to throw pretty hard or I vaugly remember at the same time....seeing a stick in the road and couldnt avoind it I think I hit it with my drivers side tire and it could of somehow flew underneath the car and wack come out the other side and come up and hit the door? I was going about 45mph.

Whatever the case is this a simple fix for a dent wizard or body shop, because of the paint cracking, ugggg. The dent is right on the bottom middle of door...where it meets the rocker panel.

Any idea on what a body shop would charge VS a dent wizard, (50-125.00)

Sorry car was a little dirty and wayyy cold out when i just took this pic.

Body shops will give you a free estimate...

If the paint has broken through, likely pro body work needed. Though dent wizard could take out the dent first, and depending on how it looks afterwards you could have an airbrush guy touch it up, I'd not recommend that.

But from your pic I'm puzzled...thought your Mini was Mellow Yellow? Is the picture that far off in color? Blue/White?

I had something like that on my hood from a rock. Had my local dent guys flatten it, then I hit it with a little touchup paint. Not perfect, but cheap, and I figure I'll be redoing the whole hood at some point, so what the heck... I'd do that first and see how much it bothers you.

I was going to say the same thing, what color is your car? White and Blue?

That "ding" does not qualify for Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). The paint is damaged and it's probably too close to the edge of the door panel.

Looks like conventional repair is the only option (hammering, sanding, painting, etc).

Appears to be a $150-250 job to me, depending on the labor rate in your area.

File a claim with your insurance if the estimate is much more than your Comp deductible.

I just dropped mine off at a collision center to have paint work done. Somebody backed out of parking spot right into the passenger side door, right on the edge with the hinge.

Anyway, the paints broken and the body shop estimated 5 hours of body/paint labor at $42/hour, but I think that was an insurance rate. The whole bill came to $360, but it needs an alignment too and that is $60 of it...so $300?

Lots of variables there though so I don't know if that really helps you...

I think it is worthwhile to try getting a couple more repair quotes and check bbb.org just to check out the repair shops. Based on the photo, $250-$300 seems within the ballpark.

So close to the edge makes it almost impossible for a dent guy. Plus broken paint means more extensive repair.
The dent guys are good though... I had one take out a softball size dent in my fender (no broken paint) and you can't tell where the dent was.

My guess is that PDR might be able to take that out, but it may end up looking almost worse with a smooth surface with a big paint chip in it. If you go the body shop route, I'd be guessing closer to $500, seems to be almost the minimum charge at shops here locally.
