R50/53 No A/C. Grinding noise solved.
Lost my A/C and a couple of days later, while driving to SF, I heard a rattling/grinding noise coming from under the hood. Fortunately I was near my sister's place so I decided not to drive the MC home. Called for Roadside assistance and had the car flatbedded to East Bay MINI. Turned out that the problem was a non-functioning compressor due to the magnetic clutch on the front of the compressor had come apart.
At the same time, I had the switch for my tire pressure sensor replaced.
Two hundred and fifty miles after the switch was replaced, the light came on again on the dash. I followed the Manual instructions and reset by pressing the button below the hand brake lever. Everything's fine now. Am I the first owner with a compressor clutch problem?
