2009 MCS Mood Lighting

Does the mood lighting increase and decrease in intensity with the dash lighting? (I'd check tonight myself, but we park on the street and the street lighting is pretty bright).

Yes, it does... the brighter the dash lights, the brighter the "mood" lighting, and vice versa.

I like the mood lighting but wish it would be brighter. In most places its reflected off of black plastic and loses a lot of intensity.

Here I've been worried that it would be too bright.
No way for me to check that, as car dealerships aren't typically 24/7 establishments.

Yeah, the reason I asked the original question is that you can barely see the mood lighting at night. The dash lights go from dim to "way too bright", but the mood lighting doesn't ever seem particularly noticeable. Seems a shame to go to all the trouble of installing the system to begin with. I doubt that any passenger would even notice it unless they were told to look for it.

Yes, I do find that when I have the dash lights at the right intensity for me, the mood lighting is very dim. I have found that orange mood lighting is more noticeable at the same brightness level than the blue lighting (orange is one end of the scale, blue the other - with other colors in between). You just have to experiment with the dash lights and the different mood light colors to see what is the best combination for you.

Pretty cool touch. I have mine set to orange to match the gauges. Its bright enough to see things below (front center mood lighting) but not bright enough to distract or affect outward vision.

I usually stick with the orange as it matches the gauges. I wish they were independent though as it would be nice to dim the gauges so you can see the mood lighting better. Although, I have noticed that on country roads at night where there is no street lighting, it lights up pretty well. Also, I've been told that from the back, it looks even better because you can more easily see the lights on the B pillars.

Most of my friends notice when they go in my car, and I stick with blue; its my favorite color, and also because the orange is kind of boring & reminds me of the stock BMW look.

Btw, has anyone noticed that instead of clicking the toggle switch to different colors, you can hold it down and yoou can get different shades of those colors? I saw someone do it in a You-Tube video and though it was kind of cool... Oh, and if you have the chrome line interior the AMBIENT lighting is much more obvious, and adds to the awesome retro reflection on the chrome surfaces.
