DOes anyone know the conversion between..

Does anyone know the conversion from metric to standard spring rates?
Im on summit and I want to order some Eibach fron coils for my megans, and all of the spring rates are standard..If nobody knows that, does anyone know a good SAE springrate to run?

Any replies are appreciated

Thanks, Myke

No, but the Megans that i bought awhile back had these on the front:

Fronts have 6" 440lb/in (7.85kg/mm) semi-barrel springs (Eibach) from Ground Control.

and then they used the stock rears.

From Google: 1 kilogram / millimeter = 55.9974146 pounds / in

From my memory:
Spring rate in lb/in = spring rate in kg/mm divided by 0.0179

example:
X = 5 / 0.0179
X = 279 [lb/in]

Or:
250 = X / 0.0179
X = 0.0179 x 250
X = 4.5 [kg/mm]

I hope that helps!

Glad you found what you're looking for. Another handy option is to use Google. If you put a mathematical equation or conversion in the Google search window, it will automatically do the conversion for you.

For example, if you put in "440 lbs/in in kg/mm" or "440 pounds per inch in kilograms per millimeter" (without the quotes), the first search result will actually be the Google Calculator result "440 (pounds / in) = 7.85750562 kg / mm"

It knows all the weird units, too - if you put in "55 miles per hour in furlongs per fortnight" (again, without the quotes), it will return the correct conversion:
"55 miles per hour = 147,840 furlongs per fortnight"

A quick and dirty calculation is to multiply kg/cm x 5.7 to get to lb/in... e.g. 60 kg/cm x 5.7 = ~342 lb/in. Dividing lb/in by 5.7 gives you a rough kg/cm estimate, too.

I use dimensional analysis for this sort of thing. It makes it a lot easier.
