Dear MINI parents,

LATCH is supposed to use 3 points the 2 lower points and a top teather.

Where is the top teather located on the MINI??!?!?!!! I only have 8 months to find it!

Yes I am spawning!

Hi,

It's on the back of the seat - a little metal bar set in a dimple about 1/2-way down. The top strap of the child seat can be thrown over the back rest (or threaded under it - but this makes quick removal a pain). Hope that helps.

Good luck with the spawn...

Take it from me (as one who has already spawned twice) - those child seats can put quite a crease in your leather or leatherette. We learned this lesson in our X5.

My wife and I use white bath towels under the child seat and between the child seat and the rear interior panel to prevent both damage to the leather and rubbing against the plastic of the rear panel. We also use a white washcloth on the top of the seat, under the headrest where the top tether touches.

It also helps to catch spills - spit up, juice, food, etc.

However if you are using a rear facing infant seat, you should not use the top teather. Once your child is big enough to be placed in a convertible seat and can face forward, then you will use the top teather

Can anybody tell me a child seat (make and model) that will fit in the MINI?
I just tried to fit one in that we bought for my wife's vehicle and while it fits, nobody could sit in the passenger seat with it in place. Please help!

Infant only or convertible?

Regardless of the seat you use, your passenger seat will have to be almost if not all the way forward, there's just not enough room otherwise.

We've got an Evenflow infant seat in the car right now, we can get the seat in and out with the front seat folded all the way forward, the base stays in the car.

I've seen a Britax convertible seat in a MINI with a 9 month old riding along. The seat is on the passenger side but you had to take the kid in and out through the driver's side. Keep in mind Britax seats are HUGE!!!

Sadly the MINI isn't really carseat friendly. It can be done, it's just a pain...

That's what I was afraid of. When I ordered the car, I kind of overlooked the practical matters, and my emotions for the way the car drove got in the way. Now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to sell it in a couple years' time when I need to fit a child seat in the car and not curse myself every time the wife and I lug the kid in and out... :???: We have an '03 Accord too, which is a much larger car, but it seems a shame that the MINI's going to sit in the driveway anytime we go anywhere together.

True, getting a little one in and out of the MINI back seat takes a bit of gymnastic ability, but it's very do-able. The wife, myself and baby recently went on a 4+ hour motoring adventure with no problems at all.
Of course, when she gets big enough to start kicking my seat all bets are off...

Believe me Stove, she will. Our guy tap dances on the seat back.We put in one of those travel holder things that hang on the seat back.Seems to do the trick. But let me tell yah, at times I really want to duck tape his little feet to the car seat. However,my wife will not let me.It can be a challenge getting kids of any age in and out of the Mini.It is just something I put up with.I love my child with all my heart and he loves the Mini just the same.I do not know what we will do if we have another child.I drive with the drivers seat almost all the way back,so two car seats may not work for us.So for now, we will deal with the challenge of kids in the Mini.Simply because we love them both.Jaydawg.And Stove, congrats on your new baby.Enjoy, there is nothing like being a dad.
