Now that is the most ridiculous thing I've heard, take him to the cleaners! How much damage and what was the assclown driving?

whatever he was driving, it was obviously an AUTOMATIC

tell the guy you do accept $100 bills, in large quantities. I hope you had an accident report filed on the spot. Good luck getting the MINI back to new.

He was driving an old trashy buick. the damage was the back bumper insert, that has to be replaced, and they are painting the bumper. My MINI is British racing green, I hope the match the color right.

OMG! That really happens? I've often worried about those people inching up from behind to read the emblem. Glad the damage was minor. Once you recover from the heartache you'll have one hell of a funny story to tell people for years to come.

Question about octane. I took delivery of a MCS a few days ago and yesterday talked to an avid mini owner who said that it is not necessary to use 91 octane fuel. Is this true? I want to do the right thing, but 89 is cheaper and I'm on a strict budget. Any advice for a newbie would be appreciated.

According to the owners manual using less than the recommended 93 Octane can cause damage......why take the chance. Even at 10 cents a gallon give or take a complete fill up (13 gals) you are only talking $1.30 hardly a earth shaking matter even on a tight budget. Treat you MINI right and it will treat you right.

Thanks for putting it in perspective -- I never did the math! Duh. I'll use high octane whenever possible. I suppose the odd fill up of less than hi test won't hurt too much if I'm caught out in the country somewhere and don't have a choice. Thanks again.

That's 91, not 93.

Sorry to hear about your accident!
I hope they have insurance and everything is fixed quickly!
If this just happened, get yourself to a doctor. Being hit from behind and hurt you even if you don't feel pain right away. Days later you can turn or bend to do something and your back or neck will just say "No". Get yourself totally checked!!

Take care and know it will all be back to perfect!!

(scratches head, wonders why octane is being discussed on Janie's car crash thread)

We feel your pain. Fortunately hasn't happen to our L'il Bit, but several years ago our 735i was T-d in the grocery store parking lot by someone cutting across aisles to get a good space. Knocked the b-pillar into the middle of the car and it was a week old. Ouch. Hope you damage is easily repaired.

Very sorry to hear about your car.

We'd just like to offer some words of encouragement. When my wife's Mini was about 1 month old... on the first morning of her new commute a tractor trailer forgot she was in front of him and inched up into her rear bumper at a light.

The car took about $1800 or so damage, but the trucker's insurance company handled everything very well.

We got her back looking and feeling every bit as good as NEW!

So find a good body shop that comes with recommendations and don't worry about.

Jenn & Kev
