need suggestions for tires

I currently have two front balding oem eurforia's and am ready to purchase new shoes. (Im paronoid of tire blow out on the highway)
First things first, I have two sets of stock mini rims, one set is the 205/45R17 S lites 17" and the other is the 175/65R15 R86 15"
The majority of my driving goes to highways.

I have two plans, please critizise or give suggestions of other tires

First plan
I've thought about saving some extra money and exchanging some performance by putting on Nokian WRG2 all season tires on the 15" rim with the size 185/65R15 92H for year round driving. The S lites will temporary retire until the treads on the 15" are worn and when i feel like having summer tires again. Is it a better idea to go with 17"+WRG2 or 15"+WRG2? they don't make 205/45R17's. (if i should go with 15", is it better to go with 185/65R15 or 195/60R15? winter is coming soon in New England)
The car will have electric compressor and slime for worst case scenario.

Second plan
My other plan is to stick with one set of summer tires (Yokohama S drive) which i will buy in may-june and one set of winter tires (Michelin X ice Xi2) which ill get sooner than needed. I am afraid that the Michelin X ice tires might not even last through next winter or even this winter because i will be putting wear an tear on these tires even though it wont snow till mid December.
The car will have electric compressor and slime for worst case scenario.

Thanks in advance.

If you do only street driving and drive the speed limit then
plan one is good. 185/65-15 is fine.

Normally for MINIs you are looking for V or W speed rated tires but H rated will work for street use (not for track or performance driving).

If you like driving the MINI with good handling in mind then you are better off with Yokohama S.Drives.

What kind of driver are you? Do you speed like crazy, fast on highway, etc? I'd only get H rated tires if you don't drive crazy and follow close to speed limits. If you try tracking or driving your MINI crazy around corners and such on the street, then you may notice your tires wearing down faster from lack of traction..

H Speed rated tires are basically for street driven sedans. They work fine and often are all season tires.

Max and Ultra High Performance Summer tires are usually V, W, Y or Z speed rated so they not only handle better but tolerate heat build up better when being used for performance driving whether on the street or the track.

H rated tires can do OK on the track and offer some traction but less so than a good V, W or Y speed rated tire of similar design. Some H rated tires are not well suited for handling if the tread pattern can't keep up with your MINI.

I have been in an old Maxima with worn H rated all season tires and my instructor easily passed the other drivers on the track at driving school including several mid modded MINIs with Max Performance summer tires.
The tires were toast after the one day event.
