R50/53 Stop light problem
Stop light problem
Is it just me or does anyone else have trouble at certain lights with actually seeing the light ? I am 6'4 and fit well in my cooper but have trouble seeing the light since the roof line is very low. Any suggestions ?
You are not alone. Several threads around here about it, and some vendors sell window lenses to help expand your view of the lights. I got my first ticket ever from running a red light that changed after I looked the first time.
I am 6'3" and have some trouble but having the seat set low and having a light-in-sight www.lightinsight.com makes most light visible.

I'm 6'1"... I stop short of the light or just lean forward to see it... where I live we have lights above and also to the sides of the road quite often so I usually just need to glance left or right for the signal.
If I were 6'7", I'd probably just look through the sunroof. ;-)

(except I'm only 5'11'). The least expensive and most practical mod I've made to date. You'll never have to lean forward and crane your neck again.
Oh gee, why didn't any of us EVER think of this?
Seriously, there are a lot of traffic lights out there that are blocked by the windshield header on the MINI, even if you're a full car length (or two, or three) back from the intersection. If you have a convertible, are tall or have a long torso, or have the seat raised up high or slid way back, it only gets worse from there.
May not work
The trip sensor for many stop lights is under the pavement and due to underground wiring/pipes ect, the trip sensor for the lights may be right at the stop line. So if you stop far back enough to see the traffic lights you may be sitting there for a while...........
I have same problem seeing lights as well.....

I ran a red light just the other day because I thought the light had turned green, but it was only the right-turn-only light that turned green (which I could barely see below my roofline). The light for my lane was completely blocked by my roofline, so I had no idea it was still red. Almost ran into a mini van. At first I thought the mini van was at fault until I slowly back up (I often accommodate other drivers and their faults) and saw the light for my lane was still red. Thankfully I didn't hit anyone and there was no cop at the time. I'm going to order two of those LightinSight.
