R50/53 Squealing after pulley change
What kind of pulley? I had installed an Alta 2.0 and had squealing. Seemed to be coming from the idler pulley, and the belt was clearly taking a different path over that pulley than it had been. The squealing cleared after a couple weeks, BUT about a month after that the belt (which was a new JCW belt) shredded. The pulley was off location by a couple millimeters. The Alta 2.0 was pretty easy to get onto the right location and it's been smooth sailing since.
it is the Alta 2.0 pulley. maybe I should see how the stock one fit and compare to the new one? AHHH that mean lifting the engine and messing with the tightener again :(
but it only does it when I step on it. it doesn't do it when idling.

Is it heard when engine is cold and after clutch is released while first starting out into 1st gear ?
Not sure I agree with the belt being too long.
I installed my 15% Alta Version 1 pulley at 6,000 miles & reused the factory belt. I had no issues & changed the belt at 32,000 miles as preventative maintenance.

fixed it...
he Napa belt that they sent me still squealed after "readjusted" it 2 times. So I tried the "old" belt (18K on the car) and the squeal went away. Don't know what the deal is but it sure is fun now!
thanks all.
BTW as soon as you do it the first time it sure is a piece of cake! 2 times re adjusted and it took less than an hour and a half! We should have a pulley party here in Cincinnati!

If using a new belt it might be dirty or have something on it that could cause chirping.
Maybe worse noise first thing in the morning or with lower temperatures.
Over time the noise might be less. If you adjust or reseat the belt it might improve.
If the noise persists you can try a different belt.
I had noise once with a new belt, got less noisy over time, didn't improve with readjusting it. Spray helped only a little, was intermittent with lower temperatures.
