2007 Coupe S Problem?? Just me?? or Lemon?

Hi all

i have been having ongoing problems with my S.

i just want to hear your feedback if this is only me or others are having similar problems.

i got my mini S in April 2007. It was ok...until April 2008.

The engine check light keeps coming back on and shaking.

Between April and October in this year, i have had FIVE times of engine problem. It is like almost once a month thing now....

(3 times in April, 1 time in May, 1 time in October)

So everytime i have the engine light on, i drive for 30 min to a MINI Dealer and drop it off for a repair. and I drive a loaner car, MINI, if i am lucky or a cheap rent-a-car if not instead of MY MINI for a while.

My car comes back with new IGNITION COILS at most of the times and new engine head filter (?).

AND the problem still keeps coming back.

now i had another check engine light on two days ago, and of course i have scheduled for a check up at the dealer.

This is really a PAIN IN THE *** situation.

Is anyone here experiencing similar problems with 2007 Cooper S ?

Thanks for your input in advance.

I would strongly suggest you to buy an OBD scan tool - this would tell you a very brief description of what fault code is causing your check engine light. These things are relatively cheap & very easy to use. Once you know what the cause of the problem is, you can decide if you really want to drive 30 min to your dealer. Plus, whatever parts he repairs / changes, you would be in a better position to guess if he's just fooling around or there's something really really wrong with your car

August 07 no problems 18,000 miles. How much mileage do you have?

I think that you should take it to a different dealer if they dont solve your simple problem.

Jino215, just save all correspondence and receipts from the dealer's repair shop just in case you need it. I have gone through a lemon with a p-car a couple of years ago.

I have a july 2008 car, two CELs so far. It dropped some intake hose while I was having too much fun (i.e running at 9 mpg). Did not think I could average under 10 mpg on a Mini but I did.

I suggest researching whether you qualify for protection under New Jersey's Lemon Law. http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/ocp/lemguide.htm

Does the R56 have such a part as an "engine head filter"?? AFAIK, no such thing exists. I suspect your dealer may be blowing smoke and unable to diagnose the problem. I second the suggestion to take the car to a different dealer.

"engine head filter" is right in there with the "muffler bearings" and nearly as hard to find and replace!

I have been having ongoing problems too, since about 5 days after I bought my car.

At
1200 Miles check engine light comes on, car goes into limp mode. Mass Airflow Sensor was replaced

5000 Miles funny noise coming from clutch, Flywheel is replaced
while replacing Flywheel they notice that power steering bolt is stripped and not installed correctly

5200 Miles Weather Stripping on boot is coming off, replaced
5200 Miles Windshield Wiper Fluid leaking, fixed.

7500 Miles, found huge puddle of water in both the passenger and driver front and rear footwells. They have torn the car apart (pretty much gutted the car) and it has currently been in the shop for almost 2 weeks. Found evaporator cracked and leaking into car, some kind of drainage tubing was also jammed and krinkled so no where for the water to drain except into the footwells.

Total time in shop since I bought March 14,2008 32 days and counting, car is still in the shop.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Mini, however I don't have time to be bringing it in every other month for stuff that should not be occurring. This seems like a quality control issue.. Come on there is no reason why a bolt should not be installed correctly and stripped. There is no reason for a drainage tube to be jammed into a spot and krinkled so bad that it doesn't do its job of draining correctly.

This is the first car I have ever owned that had this many problems in the first 7000 miles. I knew I shouldn't have bought a yellow car

My ex-Porsche was like that. The dealer representative proudly told me that it was German character and that I do not have one of those Japanese cars. Did I just pay over $100K to get a lesson in character? My wife had to stop me from cussing him out (or worse). I understand your frustration.

Looks like you may qualify for the lemon. You should talk with the factory rep ASAP. They do come around to the dealership once or twice a month. You must be present to review the case with him. If you do not have all the documentation, get it from the dealer(s). Present every problem logically and clearly in a time line. Then you have to tell him what you want (already decided by you in advance). Something like "I really really like this car....It is the car I always wanted...All my friends want one too... BUT (please fill in)". Do not let them tell you want you can get. Be real nice to the factory rep. He is the person with the POWER.

Hope this gives you some more alternatives.

I hope when my car comes it leans on the well built side and not built by the guy about ready to quit or is hung over! I have never bought a new car before and I think this is a risk one takes, there isn't someone else to test it for you so if there is a problem it is all yours!
