just wondering.

not that i plan on selling my car anytime soon but u just never know. when i had my mr2 years back i thought id keep it forever until i decided to go back to school.
anyway...i looked at autotrader to try to get an idea of how much i would be able to sell my car for. its hard though because these were all cooper s models that did not have the jcw tuning kits installed. (i have both suspension and engine upgrade). 2008 model. 3500 miles. unfortunately there is a tiny ding right under the driver side door handle.
so how much do you guys think a decent price would be for me to ask for should i decide to sell my baby?

thanks

It will largely depend on where you are, and what other options you have besides the JCW upgrades, but for a 2008 with less than 4000 miles, I wouldn't be surprised if you got between 90 and 100% of the original MSRP if you sold it.

As soon as your wheels leave the dealership, any car, kiss at least 15% of what you just paid goodbye. A car is not a wise investment. It is a luxury item, period.

I can get the same thing you are selling for brand spanking new for 90% less than MSRP. Especially in this economy.

Now is not the time to try to sell, keep it enjoy it, you will take less of a loss making payments for the next 2 years than you will selling it.

Recently, especially in the light of higher gas prices, there have been quite a few MINI owners selling their cars for 90-100% of original MSRP (or even more). Oftentimes, a buyer will pay that much because it allows them to have the car immediately, rather than ordering the car and waiting 1-2 months.

Although I'd really love to know where you can get a brand new MINI for 10% off MSRP. Generally, MSRP pricing is the best you can do on the MINI, and there are even dealers that were previously MSRP-only that have begun charging surcharges over the MSRP since the MINI has become so popular.

If you do not need the car, sell it. The resale prices look decent now.

I remember not long ago SUVs were commanding great resale values. If you are looking at future resale values, no one really knows the future especially if we happen to get into a global recession. Who knows, we may have no financial institutions left. We can barter.

Not true...i was at my dealership yesterday and there was an 07 13K miles base cooper going for 27000. The only options it had were a color line, sport seats, lounge leather, xenon lights and premium pakage. the same set up in the configurator is only aprox 24K. tell me that person didnt get 90-100% of the MSRP. they can charge that much because like said before...thats a car they have right now...not in 2-3 months.

They didn't get 90% of MSRP, ask. A dealer will never give a fair shake on trade or outright turnin. If what you claim was true, why would anyone sell their mini themselves? Secondly, just because they put a sign on it saying 27K doesn't mean you have to pay that.

Negotiate. everything is negotiable, everything. Second, a car is not a necessity, the moment you allow yourself to believe that you just gave up any ability to negotiate.

Sales are way down....

Fourth:

Did you even look at the graph you posted? Sure, overall MINI sales for September '08 are down about 7% compared to September '07, but YTD sales are up 27% from this time last year. What part of that chart looks like "way down" to you?

MINI's hardly hurting - most dealers have very little in the way of inventory, and the Oxford plant is still running at capacity.

Say all you want about the power of negotiation, but if you walk into a MINI dealership with your "10% off MSRP or I walk" attitude, you're going to be walking home, I promise. They'll just sell it to the next guy for MSRP (or higher).

YTD is up 27.4% MINI is doing great! Demand is definitely up.

If you are buying something other than MINI you can't trade in a MINI at MINI dealership. Just because MINI dealership gives you 90% on trade-in, it doesn't mean other car dealers will give you that for a MINI also. You'd have to sell on your own if you are not trading it in for another MINI.
