Subwoofer?

I'd like to put a small powered subwoofer in my MINI, either a Bazooka or a Basslink system. But I would like to keep the stock head unit. Does anyone know what I would need to do this?

I couldn't help it. For the earlier models I'm not exactly sure. I check the NAV and Audio forums pretty regularly but for the R56. My advice is to start there.

Universally, you'll need to tap into a speaker signal for the audio signal and power for well power. The battery is in the back on the earlier models, I think, so the power shouldn't be an issue. And you should be able to patch off the speakers levels anywhere. I think the fronst and rears are all full signals on your unlike the R56's.

Good luck.

Thanks, I talked to the guys at Best Buy and they said that all they needed was a line converter. So hopefully I'll get this taken care of soon!

Oh yes. I've actually only been without an aftermarket system since I bought the MINI. I just didn't want to put something as powerful as my old system into a car that small, and I don't think it would have fit...

I don't even think you'll need the line converter. Most of the powered subwoofers have speaker-level inputs, since they're designed to get their input by tapping off of the car's existing speaker wires. If you were going with a separate amp for the subwoofer you might need a line-level converter because not all amps accept speaker-level inputs, but both the Infinity Basslink and the powered Bazooka systems do take speaker-level inputs.

I have the powered Bazooka Sub in my boot. Just strapped down so I can easily take it out when need be. Hooked it up myself, and the hardest part is getting to the rear speakers to connect to..Also did some sound-proofing since I had the rear seats and all out anyway..
