Gas Cap

Hello guys, The tether for my gas cap on my R50 came loose, not the end on the cap, the end that goes to the body somewhere, either to the gas door lid or the body. I cannot figure out where that end goes. Can someone please take a look and let me know if it goes to the gass door lid or some where on the body behind the door.....a picture would also be great if not too much trouble. Thanks.

The "tether" on my '02 MCS goes into the hole the hinge is mounted in. I suspect you will need to remove a interior panel to get to it from behind. Just a guess.

The tether runs along the arm of the cap and sits in a notch at the base of the arm. With the cover open you can feel the notch at the opening were the arm goes through the black plastic base.

Wow, I didn't even know the gas cap had a tether! Mine has none. It would've saved me the cost of a new cap when I accidently knocked mine from its perch on the fuel door into apparent oblivion.

Reviving a Dead thread. Wife's uncle recently purchased a 2005 MCS Cabrio. Fuel Cap tether is missing. Have spent the last hour or so cruising the web and cannot find a part number. Wasn't planning on heading to dealership this weekend. Anyone got a part number? Source link? Thanks. tw

According to RealOEM, the P/N is 16116760043 and should run you less than $5 from the dealer, Pelican Parts, etc.

The tether is a separate part number...if they won't sell it to you I'm sure someone online will (Pelican Parts has it).

Can someone verify that the part#16116760043 is actually the tether?

When I searched on Google Product Search all the results call it a "ground cable". Thanks.

Realoem.com is your friend on such matters.

Realoem is not my friend in this instance, they also call this number a "ground strap" :(

Hm. It's in the pictures but maybe it's no longer available.

The entire cap with the tether should run around $20 though.
