Just got back from visiting the dealership and they had some brochures for the K40 system. I was just curious about the system... anybody know anything?

I do, dont bother, it wont work, no radar detector really works. It's only going to work if the dumb *** cop leaves his radar on all the time. But mostly they turn it on when they see a car, so you're still speeding when you go buy. Best advice is to drive no more than 10 over on highways and 5 on streets, and slow down when you're passing a spot where they like to sit.

Actually the K-40 is not just a detector its also a DIFFUSER. So it should work awesome. Where a radar detector cant pick up instant on laser, the K 40 will just diffuse the laser before it hits your car, so the cop cant get a speed reading.

Everyone talks about the valentine1 is the best but they never mention the k40 when comparing. Is the k40 comparable to the V1 or is the V1 just a better all around detector.

The V1 is the best detector you can get. I have one myself. That being said, no radar DETECTOR stands a chance against instant on laser. By the time it beeps you are already being clocked by the bacon patrol. The only option is to diffuse it, with something like the K 40, or dont speed.

I have always looked at getting a V1, for a few years now (my Chevelle doesn't currently have a harness for the lighter plug), but this system would be cool as hell in a MINI, especially since it has the James Bond effect going on, no need for weird perma-installs like with the V1 in the MINI hooked up to the clocks ground wire or whatnot

The K40 is a good system as far as radar detectors go. The diffuser will only block laser, tho not radar. I installed a basic front radar setup in my MINI. I reallt dont think rear is necessary, since most of the time you are not speeding in reverse. I also didnt go with the defuser because if you speed past a cop and he sees a messed up reading on his gun, he's gonna chase after you anyway, and will probably give you a hard time.

My k40 works great, but it obviously wont do anything against instant on. But, if you have cars in front of you and the cop guns the cars in front, you will be alerted in time. It's always good to have a "speeding partner".

The way I see it, you can't rely on a radar detector one bit, but if it does save you once, it paid for itself.
