Water Stain on Black Bonnet Stripe - Suggestions to get rid of it?

So I actually picked up the car a month ago with a small water stain on one of the the black bonnet stripes but I have noticed that I have a few more stains and on both stripes now. I'm not sure if it's 100% water or windshield washer fluid but I can't get it off of the vinyl. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried a very small amount of bug/tar but that just makes it feel "greasy" and doesn't remove anything. Thanks.

Try vinegar and water mixed 50/50. Let is soak in for a minute or so, then wipe it off. Alcohol, same mixture may work also. Or try some Scratch-X

Paint Defect (?)

Hey,

I have the SAME issue. I've been unable to remove the spot by scratching lightly with a fingernail, rubbing out, washing out, even using hydro and slick haven't touched it....worse part is, I have them on the body and bonnet as well! I'm taking the car in this week to get a scratch from delivery handling fixed on the bonnet and i'm going to have them look at it. I have these "spots" in several places on the bonnet, including on the stripes, and also on the door/body panels in multiple locations. It seems to be a paint defect in my case I think. Perhaps there were water spots on it before they clear-coated the care I'm guessing. I'm NOT happy though.

I've attached a link to the other post below. I've received no responses on it as of yet...someone please help if you've seen this or might know what it is....

I have the same issue with my Astro Black color. I just noticed it tonight for the first time and I've only had the MINI for 3 weeks. I'm very upset.

Have you get able to find out what it is?

I have the same thing. The first day i had the car and there was this long drip running down my black bonnet stripe. I went to wipe it off and it was a little oily..turns out...its cosmoline mixed with hot water since the car was sitting outside for hours. The stain never went away. So I took my car to the dealership and they are going to change the stripes tomorrow. HOPEFULLY.

Mine is on the actual paint. Guess I'll be giving the dealer a call tomorrow.

If it's cosmoline, or the washer drip issue, the dealer should fix it and repair any damage under warranty for either cause.

Hmm... interesting, add my name to the problem list. I picked up my car a couple months ago. Had water marks on the black bonnet stripes and these tiny little rust-colored spots throughout the paint of the car. Dealer immediately said he'd change the stripes and polish up the car for me. Haven't taken it back yet, but scheduled for this or next week. The spots, I believe, likely came during shipping. I don't think it's a paint defect, rather something that comes off. The stripes, I don't know, but they're going to replaces them, as he tried and couldn't get the marks off.

Will keep you posted when I take it back.

I just got my mini a month ago and noticed spots on the black bonnet stripes last week. I washed it this weekend but the spots are still there, so I came to this forum to find out what to do. I am totally new to car detailing, and have never even heard of claying before. Can someone tell me where to get this clay and recommend what kind??

You can find either Meguiars' or Mother's clay at most autoparts stores and walmart.

If it comes in a kit all you need else is a nice towel. If not, you will want to get some Quick Detailer type spray for lube and a nice towel (preferrably microfiber towels).

Wash these towels separately from other cotton towels/cloths.

Cocopud,

Claying is a process that removes surface contaminants. You can pick it up and Walmart or Checkers/Autozone etc. I have used Meguiars and Clay Magic and like the Clay Magic the best. Picked up a kit at Autozone for $7.99.

Here is a link to the autogeek video for claying:

no mixture of home chemicals worked for me, neither did clay. Prima Finish got 98% of it off. Just need to make sure I wax it a few times, and use more hydro?

you should let the adhesives cure for about 24-48hrs
but after that you will want to wax or seal it.

ever since I started to use Klasse AIO--lightly, of course--a few years ago on my long gone R53's and my current R56's black stripes hard water spots and other doodoo have been a lot less hassle. The stripes, in general, have been a lot less worrisome. stuff is great. I'll put on 2 coats, the first to clean, the next to protect, then a couple thin Sonus Acrylic Glaz layers and presto--stripes so slick nothing can stick to them.

Are the stains alot like the windsheild fluid stains on my bonnet? If so, will clay bar really get rid of it?

Have you talked to your Dealer about installing one-way valves on your washer jets?
This does help, although it won't help take off the stain that is there now.
