Can someone with seat extender brackets post a pic?

You'd think they'd be simple, but ever since installing the seat extension brackets from Minimania, my chair is all wobbly and weird. It seems to me like this should not be the case - is it? If you have the "L"-shaped seat extenders installed, can you drop a reply in here letting me know ifyour seat ended up all wobbly as a result? If your seat is solid, can you post a pic? It seems as of there should be 6 bolts holding it in place, 4 in the back against the stock seat bracket and the last 2 on the seat itself (which would retain the ability to pivot) but I can only get 2 holes to line up on the bulkhead. This leads to the bracket pivoting in two places no matter how tight I snug up the nuts and bolts, since now there are two movement points. Suggestions? Is a bit of stray movement just part and parcel of this mod?

These?

http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/BG.../InvDetail.cfm

I don't have 'em but looking at my existing mounts it looks like this adds one bolt per mount.

You are using this with the original mount right?

Is everything making metal to metal contact....no carpet underfoot?

Looking at my brackets and this extension, once the pivot bolt is pulled, this bracket put in, and the bolt replaced this thing should be pretty well wedged.

Question - do you have original seat mounts? What seats do you have? Might the mounts have been changed?

My mounts look exactly like these
http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/S2.../InvDetail.cfm
and once that extender is fitted 'tween the two folded parts of the bracket and the bolt inserted it would be quite strong....

Here's a picture of my bracket annotated with how I'd use the bracket and the new bolt location thereby moving the seat to the rear.....

sorry if you r using something else.....& I'm off base

(additional - my seats are 'wobbly' from the rear. The attachmant point in the back is almost comical. If I grab a seat top I can easily rock the seat back and forth. That's the nature of the beast so far as the mounts for my Cobra's goes..... once my butt is in 'em, they are pretty decent tho)

Yep, that's the bracket. I installed mine with a second set of nuts, and what happens is that the nuts loosen up almost immediately, allowing the seat to pivot in-place in the front. When I hit gas or brake, the seat wobbled back and forth, and feels kinda dangerous. Seems like some people's are wobbly and others' are firm - perhaps we wobbly folk have them installed wrong? If so, I'd feel better, not being alone in installing it incorrectly... Thanks!

Agree that the thin aluminum bracket extensions are poorly suited for their purpose.

Use a suitable length of 3/16" steel drilled to match your stock seat mounting brackets. It will just slip into the slot and you can drill it for whatever seat positions you want.

We keep the RH passenger seat set back for comfort, legroom etc. and have the LD seat mounting drilled back for me and forward for my wife who is very much shorter. Two clevis pins to pull out and reset to change seat forward or back as the case may be.

Dark now but will try and get a photo up by Monday (we have 30 at house for picnic tomorrow - B.C. Holiday weekend).

Matt,I have a set that I assumed my son would need since he is 6' 2".However he drives the car fine without them....hey for that matter you did to. Do you really need them? If so bring the car up and we will get it buttoned up.We still need to take a look at your carb set up!

At the risk of sounding too much like a mechanical engineer...three observations come to mind. . . 1) I live with a little sloppiness, but not too much 2) I have been considering making mine out of slightly larger stock..that will help some in the strength and flex area 3) I have since the beginning used "nylon" lock nuts to keep the suckers as tight as they can be.

Mine are in my 77 Mini 1000, so the seat adjusts differently. That sort of rotating cam like motion. And the extenders have multiple holes in them to allow for length extension, as well as a slight height adjustment as well....too many holes.

Good Luck

I'm wondering where all these promised pictures are hiding! I'm wanting to install some newer seats in my classic and would certainly appreciate all the ideas can get at this point.

I would like to retain the lift of the original seats, but don't have to, since my new seats will lean forward on there own.

I only have a small dog that would be using the backseat anyway. What I'd realy like to see, is something that's been bolted down in the rear as well.

Anybody here have something like that?

Stock Seat Extensions

One last attempt to upload photos so you can see what I did. Two photos are trapped somewhere on this site and I have not been able to find and attach them. Must say the photo insert/upload function is crap.

First, LH driver's side where clevis pins are used to permit quick relocation of the seat.

No frigging luck.

Second, RH passenger side where fixed extension is used to generate leg room for comfort especially on trips.

No friggin luck.

Stock rear latch is used to anchor both seats.

Sorry

MD IN UK email me at mhabc@telus.net and I'll attach the photos in a heartbeat.

Or go here: http://www.minimania.com/web/threadi.../msgthread.cfm

doesn't your MiniMania post use links to photobucket for the pics? It works the same way here....I gave up using the gallery here as a photo host tho, cuz I'll agree it is awkward.

Open a picture tag, insert the photobucket direct link and close the tag.... &, you can use the same picture in multiple places.....
