Decisions - White vs. Black
Decisions - White vs. Black
OK, St. Louis MINI folks. I need some help, please. I'm torn about the color choice of my JCW and want some opinions....
Chili Red/Black is the signature JCW color. It looks aggressive, modern, and will go very well with my Rooster Red/Black interior. Has sort of that "I mean business" feel, like my Carbon Black M3. My wife prefers it, but says I should get what I want.
Chili Red/White is a more classic look, both in terms of MINIs and sports car racing. It's also the color scheme of the John Cooper Works Challenge car. I like that race heritage...has sort of that 60s Sebring feel.
What do you think? White or Black?

White, baby! (and that's a totally UNBIASED opinion!
)
In all honesty, it doesn't matter what I (or anyone else) likes...which do YOU like best?

I am leaning towards white. It also won't get as hot, and will be easier to keep looking good. I have to decide soon. I'm a Week 32 build (week of Aug. 3) and it will get scheduled for production very soon.

The white roof will be cooler. It's down to me liking white and my wife liking black. I'm not going to do white wheels. It's not a factory option anyway.
If it was me, I'd do black roof and black stripes. I have a hard time with putting other colors onto the car besides its color and black and maybe chrome/silver on the interior. I feel like any more colors just seem out of place (e.g. Tuscan leather with mostly black dash).
That said, I think both will look great. Good luck and have fun configuring! I'm almost done and will be putting in the final config with the MA early next week.

And the winner is...
I really like the white better. I was at my MINI dealer and they had a Red/White GB and a Red/Black MCS next to each other. I just liked the white better. It has that classic MC Rally thing going and is the signature color of the MINI Challenge, so I think that makes it cool. And since Red/Black will be a very common as the JCW signature scheme, I"ll have something a little more distinctive.
And it will be cooler on top.
My wife likes the black better, but she caved saying it's important the car is the way I like it.

I disagree about your comment on A/C. White will keep the car cooler by reflecting rather than absorbing heat from the sun. You can have A/C full blast (and I don't like A/C blowing on me like that), but that doesn't mean it keeps up well with a blazing 100 deg sun on a sunny hot summer day. I've been on enough road trips to appreciate that. You can't escape physics.
It may be a ridiculous criteria to you, but it most certainly is not to me.
Yeah, I got a chance to drive the JCW demo at MINI of St. Louis. It's a blast to drive & I can't wait to get it. My wife and I saw the Red/White MC40 they have and based on that decided to also add the chrome driving lamps. I'm also getting the checkered mirror caps (will install those myself).
I've already talked to Mark at UltraShield about installing the white/red stripes, as well as ClearBra and tinting. With the window tint I think I'm going to do 35% on the front windows, and 20% around the back -- I hope that looks good.

Too late. I already got white. I've seen both in the flesh and like Red/White much better. And now that my wife has seen both she agrees and says I did the right thing.

Congrats on the new mini. Sorry about the ridiculous comment. I really didn't mean it to sound the way I now see it did. Now that you mention the 100 deg sun, I remember how poor the a/c is in the mini. My Wifes old car never got cool enough on hot days. Good luck with your new car.

My car is scheduled for production next week. It might just get born on my 50th birthday.
Dean, that car would be a most excellent B'day present.

True, but I have to wait 6 weeks to unwrap it. So I'm going to Road America next week to watch some great racing. That'll be my real birthday celebration.

I just made the connection (from avsforums).
