Winter window concerns

My '08 MCS will be exposed to PA winter weather and I was concerned about the window up/down when you open the door.

If my windows are frozen will I be able to open the door without breaking the glass?

It is a great design to the windows but I'm afraid it's not practical when the windows freeze to where they won't be able to open.

Anybody go through this yet?

Somehow I think the ice will break before the glass breaks. I'd worry about tearing up your window seals first. There's plenty of cars with "frameless" side windows. Have you heard of this happening in the past? If not, then don't worry about it.

But do those "frameless" cars have the window go up/down automatically when the door is opened and closed?

I've been driving trucks for the past 30+ years so if there are other cars out there that have this feature then it's news to me.

Yes, this feature is also available on other cars, it is not exclusive to MINI.

I had Subaru Legacy (2 of them), with frameless windows in cold connecticut winters for many years with no problems. I kept the rubber seals well siliconed and ice couldnt stick. did not have auto down, however.

Thanks.

Not much of a stress issue, but more curious that the door would actually open if the window was frozen in the up position.

The window only drops a half inch or less when you open the door, so don't worry. I've had frameless windows for years.

Worry when you open the door and the window doesn't drop that half inch. It always meant the battery was dead.
