R84 V-spoke on 07+ MCS?

Well, it has been determined that the gen 1 classic R84 V-spoke wheels fit well on the 07+ MC, but the jury's out on whether this wheel fits the 07+ MCS.

If so, we can settle this right now. If not, why so? JCW brake cleareance? Lug size? TPMS?

Also, I read somewhere long ago that late 06s and 07 and 08 cabrios have larger lug sizes, 14mm as opposed to 12mm. Is this correct? thanks in advance, 'quence.

Both cars likely use the same hub, so I would guess that the only potential issue would be brake clearance.

R84 V-spoke on 07+ MCS?

Yes they will clear the brakes although it is NOT recommended by Mini due to cooling issues.

Yes the larger lugs will work. All models, R50 & R53, were changed in mid '06 to the 14mm bolt.

I don't know if the TPMS will fit inside the wheel.

Hope this helps...

what "cooling" issues?

friction? expansion that causes rubbing?

R84 V-spoke on 07+ MCS?

My understanding of "cooling issues" is that due to the construction of the wheel, less distance from the caliper to the rim,
there is less than desired room for the air to circulate and properly cool the brakes under hard use.

The only rubbing I've heard of is improperly placed wheel weights and I'm told that this is not an issue when a 5 mm spacer is used.

Hope this helps...

Reviving the dead

Anyone out there put V-spokes on a 2007+ Cooper. Any issues as stated above. Wheels in question are 2003ish. Will TPMS work with these? I understand that the TPMS wheels have a "flat" behind the valve stem for mounting. Do the older wheels have this also? Thanks.

A couple of years ago, I bought s-winders from a guy who liked the look of r84 v-spokes better on his 07 mcs. He already had the v-spokes mounted when I picked up the s-winders, so they must fit. Cooling or performance issues, I don't have any info. If anyone cares to ask the guy directly about his experience, inbox me and I'll inbox you back the guy's email address.

Has anyone fir TPMS sensors to the R84 wheels?

V-Spoke Info from a user from 2008 :)

1. 2007s do/did have TPMS - at least mine (R56 "S" ordered Sept. 2007) did - so I am assuming others did as well

2. I picked up some used V-Spokes (2003? paid $225 for 4 - not that great cosmetically) to use as WINTER wheels (as I had read post above concerning "cooling/heating" issues) in October 2008 - and have been using them (December to March) ever since with ZERO issues (balancing weights are on outside of rim - not cosmetically the "best' but no rubbing issues for sure. I believe this is the lightest OEM MINI wheel - the Michelin X-Ices I have are definitely not performance tires, but I think the overall wheel/tire package works well.

If you "eyeball" the space (definitely space enough for air to pass through?!?!?!) between the wheel and brake calipers, there appears to be "adequate' space (however that is defined by the "gurus").

3. Does TPMS fit on the V-Spokes? Who cares? TPMS is the biggest load of "sh*t" in the world? - what Washington BOZO put that idea forward??

Discounting the idiots who don't check their tire pressure or oil: no chain will now even swap out my winter and summer wheels (no TPMS); stupidly/uselessly added expense; (still manufacturers/models with rear drum brakes??); the MINI TPMS warning light is easily ignored after a while, etc.

Absolutely no need for TPMS - except (thanks to bureaucracy!) if you cannot accept the hassle of swapping out your wheels twice a year by yourself (or perhaps you have a private mechanic who will

If I had to do it again I probably would have bought 15" Konig Feathers (I have 16" for my summer 215/50R16 Falkens) and gone with a narrower and cheaper 15" winter tire (same weight about 15 lbs. I believe) rather than the V-spokes (but could not get a definitive "the 15-inch WILL fit for sure on an "S"!") from Alta.

Just my 2 cents
