First Time MINI Owner

Hello all,

I placed the order for my Clubman S on July 3rd, my dealer entered the order on July 5th. I got my production number on July 9th only to find out that my build week is week 28! I've asked them to verify several times, but they still say it's being built this week. When I go online, it still shows "Ordered". My question is, how accurate is the Owner's Lounge status?

Anyway, with all that behind me, my MINI is configured:

Clubman S
Silver Body / Silver Top / Black rear trim
Black checkered cloth interior
Manual Transmission
Sport Package
17" Alloy Web Spoke rims
Convenience Package
Cold Weather Package (yea, I live in Phoenix but I can dream! )
Premium Package
Parking Distance
Chrome Line Interior
Chrome Line Exterior
Chrome Door Mirror Caps
Brushed Alloy Interior Surface
White turn signals
Rear fog

Still un-named so far. The dealer I ordered from is in NY, so if anyone has any recommendations on reliable (enclosed) trucking companies, I would appreciate it!

Thanks
William

Forget the Owner's Lounge and read this sticky in the 1st Gear Forum: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=144057 where you'll learn how to obsess the right way. And congratulations on your order!

P.S. I'm in NY, too...in Westchester County...not far from CT. There's a very active group around the PA/NJ/NY/CT area. If you're nearby you should come to the Summer Splash on 7/27 in New Canaan, CT and you'll meet a great group:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=136007

Thanks for the quick reply! Actually, I live in Phoenix Arizona. I placed my order with the Dealer in NY as their build time was MUCH faster than what I can get here in Arizona. Maybe I'll take a road trip to your area sometime?

Like Otra said, forget the OL (Owner's Lounge). They're often wrong about ordering specs from the get go, but usually fixes itself ina couple days. Also, the OL is much slower to update than the other tracking sources. I'd call 1-866-ask-mini and gte your info that way. That way you can talk (or bug, pester, obsess) to a live person and they seem to have more accurate info until it leaves the plant over in england.

good luck

Interesting about that, wearlaz - smart thinking. If I might ask, how are you going to take delivery? Fly out and drive back?

Yes, MINIchaser's right...call and speak to a human...but eventually you'll enjoy the ship tracking and the camaraderie of fellow shipmates that you'll find in your week's build thread that may already be started over in 1st Gear.

Oh yes, I meant in addition to the tracking info you can find in your build week thread

I haven't decided yet - but am considering having it shipped via enclosed truck to Phoenix with delivery at the MINI dealer here to go over the vehicle.

I am still considering flying out and taking nothing more than country side roads on my way back to Arizona....

Well, keep us posted - that would be quite a ride but perfect for the Clubman. One of my reasons for buying the Clubman is to eventually take it out across country...at least somewhat across.

Thanks so much for the 800-AskMini number. I just found that my build week is week 30 - that's not too far away. Where's that support group again?

By the way, VERY NICE people on the AskMini 800 number!

going to fly to pick mine up also

I was visiting relatives in Chicago when I got bit and ordered my MCCS on Memorial Day. I live in So texas and was going to have a cousin drive it down or have it shipped. The more excited I get (which is pretty darn excited) the more I'm deciding to fly up and drive it back!
It'll be 1300 mi. What an opportunity

still its the wait..... My MA has said probably last week in July or first week in August.

Time is going to fly - you'll see...then it will hit slow motion that last few days. Just bite the bullet and enjoy the obsessional tracking...and you'll find others to share your wait with so it won't seem so bad....and the payoff will be worth it.

I ordered mine June 30th and he told me that it was going to be produced the 28th of July. I think I am going to call that number to get more info tomorrow. I know the feeling. I am trying to keep busy with work so I dont go crazy. I have never had to wait so long for a car. But like you said, the payoff will be worth it.
Just out of curiosity, did you guys have to pay dealer fees?
My friend got a lease and he got them to waive the dealer fees. Should I start trying now? Or should I wait till I get the car?
thanks

Which dealer fees are you referring to? The only fee I'm aware that I paid for was the destination fee that was added when I configured online and was part of the MSRP.

When I called 866-ask-mini this morning, the very helpful gentleman said they wouldn't know the actual production date until all the parts are assembled. He said the "window" now is July 20th to 25th for starting production.

I got my car in NY also and drove it back to CO. The good thing was by the time I got home the car was broke in and ready for some real fun! I bet by the time you hit 89 down Oak Creek you could open in up and have a blast on the twisties. Why is it I see dealers in NY always have cars to be built in less time than West dealers? I know the allotment thing but it seems NY always has cars coming up to be built.

Highway driving isn't the best way to break in your MINI as you'll be cruising at constant engine speeds even if you switch between 5th and 6th often. Driving back roads from NY to AZ will be a long trip.

I've been wondering about the break in issue. Trouble is, I've found just as many people say that it's good as those that think it's bad. The dealer in NY is saying "We have lots of people drive back to California!"

Funny thing is, my biggest concern is that I want to have clearbra protectant installed here in Phoenix (have a REALLY good installer) and I don't want to risk any nicks/stone marks on the way home.

Right now, I'm leaning to have it shipped to its new home!

I was also worried about driving on the interstate home. From what I was told you just don't want to go over 90. They also want you to use different speeds so no cruise control but it was no big deal. This was from Mini USA, my dealers and others I have talked with.

For fun, I mapped a route on maps.google.com that travelled the entire time without getting on a freeway or interstate. It added 900 miles to the trip (I altered it from most direct to hit some interesting spots), but would certainly be interesting! New York, Philadelphia, Virginia, Charlotte, Atlanta, Alabama, New Orleans, San Antonio... just to name a few

Hey wearlaz, I ordered my MCC from N Scottsdale dealer on Jun 3rd was told it would take 4 months, and now its on the ship and should arrive in port (Ca.) July 29th.
Did you get a better deal or maybe freebies (i.e. floor mats, mud flaps etc?) Because I got NUTHIN'.
Anyways it sounds like your going to have a great road trip and no freeways way to go.

I got the first Clubman from N. Scottsdale and after a two-year wait I got a license plate surround. No mats, as they told me it would come out of the MA's commission. Oh well, worth the wait, but I would hesitate to drive that distance without a clear bra. Too many chances of chipping the paint. I think I'd opt for the enclosed shipper. I had the dealer install my clear bra and protection for door cups, mirrors, back bumper, etc. as I was worried about the 130-mile trip home. I can't imagine taking it cross country without it.

Congratulations.

Wow, if I'd known it would have taken that short of a time, I would have ordered thru them. They were telling me 5-6 months late June.

Right now, no freebies - so far 'cause I'm not finished with them!

Yep, driving that far without the front protection is my biggest concern and will likely win out. I have quotes from an enclosed carrier for around $900 to ship it to my door. Then again, maybe I'll have it dropped off at my tint person's house so I won't risk that drive either?

I talked to Ask-Mini today and they're saying the build will start sometime next week. It will be nice to know that the process has officially started.

FINALLY!! Production started today

I called Ask MINI this morning and found that my Clubman has started production! Got my VIN number as well. Now I'm off to look into the ships heading to NY for the end of the month and HOPE that mine gets on it!

Oh yea, my new Clubman - a he, is now officially named "Edgar" after a character in the 1984 movie, Electric Dreams. Let's just hope he's more tolerant than Edgar the computer was!
