Bolt In Roll Cage In Convertible

Anyone try to put a bolt in cage in a convertible? Does one fit?
I talked with Autopower today, sounds like the front section may be the same as the coupe, but the rear braces may need to be changed. I'd have to drive to San Diego for a few days to get one made up as they have never done one before. So, has anyone had any experience with a roll bar of any type in a convertible?

Odd request. I've only heard of putting roll hoops and some bracing from that along the doors to the front floor in convertibles. It should be possible to do a full cage, but will the roof still close?

Well, I'm not sure if it will close, sort of why I'm asking if anyone has any experience. Plus that's why I want it bolt-in, weekend warrior type stuff. Take it back out when you get home.
If it can close I'm sure the track guys will want it closed due to debris, the drag guys I'm not sure. I'm not looking to do any serious track stuff with the car, but my other car is far from finished and thought it would be fun to take the Mini out once or twice a year for a DE.
I'd also like to take it to the drag strip, and by the chance it goes 13.99 or faster, since it's a convertible NHRA says it will need a cage for that too.

I'm sure Autopower can make a 6-point that will clear the top. They are the bomb. Basically, if you dont want to do a search about my experience with them...here it is: I bought a non-moonroof 6-point from a source. Cage was incomplete. I have a moonroof application. Called autopower. They got my info and said my NEW cage would be ready in 2 weeks no questions asked. Loaded up the Touareg and drove to their shop. Swapped cages and I think I paid 50 bucks for the door guards. No biggie. Catastrophe averted and its sitting in my car as we speak. THEY RULE! Very nice CS too!!!!!

Note that the rear bars are on the frame cross member so that they dont have to go on top of the rear fenders (thats the usual place)
In a cabrio that would also be where all the mechanism is for the top.
You cant get to the underside of that cross bar so that is the reasion for the weld in ...
WHEN ... I build my OSP car it will be a cabrio with the top and rear seat deleted (I have the RSD already in production for the cabrio) ant the OEM rear roll bar removed... Or a hard top with the roof removed ..both will have the windshield hoop also removed.
I will be able to then attach the rollbar to the wheel well tops and/or the frame rail.
I got a lot of good info and ideas from this set up .

The front mount section is not the best way to attach...

The car doesn't look bad, but seems stock except for the cage. What was the cage installed for, the 3/4 drank frappacino in the cup holder?

Yeah, I'm leaning the Autopower route, they were great on the phone today, it's just that I'm in Norcal and would have to give them the car for a week or so to get a complete bolt in/removable cage. San Diego isn't the worst place to be stuck for a week, but it's still a bit of a hassle. I could fly back and forth as well. I need to get back to LA in the next few weeks anyway so I could tack it on to that.

After the last trip on I-5 and a meet and greet with the CHP, it probably will be 11 hours.

big howe.

My son has made custom roll bars and we have done lots of custom projects.
Maybe we could help, we are in Concord.

Here is his thread on the latest rollbar

I've been meaning to talk you guys, being as close as you are. Saw your cars in Vegas but never caught you over there. I'm still weighing some of the rollbar options, but it'd be fun to get togehter shoot the breeze, you never know what develops. Is there any cars and coffee type of thing in the area? I'm up in Vacaville, so it's a short drive down to you.

some local "casual" get togethers are

Wednesday night in Clayton...
or Friday night at Sun Valley Mall.

Or any SCCA SFR auto-X date.
those are Sundays at Golden gate fields, Monster park, or MacAffee park
