R55 My issues continue...
My issues continue...
I swear I love this car, but the little issues I am having are driving me nuts. I've got two more:
1.I read a thread the other day about it being a good idea to turn off you Xenon running lamps so I tried to do so. I have the Navigation screen... I maneuvered over to the relevant screen in the setup menu, clicked the little box to turn off the daytime running lamps and nothing happened.
Am I doing something wrong?
I then tried to turn them off using the turn signal setup... does anyone know if you can turn off Daytime Running Lamps using the turn signal when you have a Navigation screen? I tried to do so, but was unable to do so because I could not find the "arrow" screen in the setup/info screen.
Any help on what I am doing wrong would be much appreciated.

And number two issue:
2. I got a letter in the mail from MINI saying that they forgot to activate my voice recognition and real time traffic... what the heck does that mean? ...recall that I am the guy with the (still) malfunctioning navigation system. I thought that my VR wasn't working because the NAV wasn't working. Am I wrong about that?
...basically, my question is: is the NAV system in any way operationally related to the VR system?
By the way... after my dealer has refused/failed to fix the NAV system for four months, I'm filing a LEMON LAW complaint with the State of Georgia.

I would be pissed, too. No excuse for what you are reporting. That's a heck of expensive option and it should work. Whether it will be enough for a Lemon Law proceeding depends on the requirements of the 'Georgia Lemon Law'. You should be able to find some good stuff by googling that phrase. Be careful with other states' laws since they can vary greatly.
Hope you have a good law down there that will allow you to succeed.
Good Luck.
And BTW, I've got a new Garmin Nuvi 760 and it is no where near as loud as my old Nuvi 200W. I'm trying to make it work for me, but we will see. It was cheaper than the Nav, but that is for a reason!
Rich
Although Georgia is different from Florida, I was successful in my Lemon Law complaint becasue the paint was flawed, which most people told me would never fly. Because the car was out of service (to me) for greater than 30 days AND returned greater than three times for the same issue, VW took it back. So you may have a chance with the NAV issue. If nothing else you will get the formal attention of MINI. That option is too expensive to have it less than perfect.
Joebeenimble, somehow I guess I must have missed an earlier thread of yours or my MINI memory is "full". The situation as you've described it is reprehensible. Have you placed a call to MINI USA regarding your experience yet - NOT the running lights, but the NAV issue? Please forgive me if you've already explained all this in another thread - and if you have why not give us a hyperlink to the original thread?
As for the daytime running lights - I don't have the Navigation...but on mine it is a programmable option under Set Up...Look at your Manual, it should be explained within.
Back to the NAV issue. Going for the Lemon Law may not be something you have to do - if you have not yet gone directly to MINI USA, please do. I know someone who had an issue with a dealer about a problem - though not factory related - and MINI USA has pulled through for him to address the many layered issue he had.
I feel very badly for anyone who buys a brand new car and has to deal with problems that shouldn't be and aren't being addressed in a timely manner.

I have the NAV system. And while I haven't tried to do anything with my DRLs, I have had to reset the TPMS. I could not do it with the turn signal setup.
My conclusion is that if you have the NAV, most programmable features are taken care of there, and there ONLY, and the turn signal functions are disabled. If you don't have the NAV, then those programmable features are set on the turn signal menus.
As to why the DRLs won't be reprogrammed on your NAV, I don't know . . . other than you seem to have a bad NAV all around. Do things like audio controls, and iPod menus work?
As for Voice Recognition being related to the NAV, I think that they must be. People without NAV don't have VR, do they?
Good luck to you, and let us know if and when it gets resolved.

Thank you for all of your replies
... I guess I will take her to to dealer and ask them to turn off the DRLs. Something must be wrong with the Navigation screen too. Who knows.
Regarding the Lemon Law... I happen to be a Georgia lawyer and I reviewed the relevant administrative laws. Basically, if the defect "substantially impairs" the value of the car, then the Lemon Law applies... if the manufacturer either fails or refuses to fix the defect.
I would say that a $2k defect on a $30k car = substantially impairs... that's my argument, anyway.
For me... it is starting to be less about the issue itself rather than what is the morally right/wrong thing for BMW to do, and I'm getting pissed.
Otra... the short story is I picked the car up at the dealership (fresh from the boat), the NAV/VR didn't work, it was late at night, I was 4 hours from home with no other way to get home, they sent me home with the car saying they would come pick it up and replace the NAV, several months passed, no response from BMW or the dealer.

It sounds like the OP needs a software re-install. This can take 8 hours or more. Yes, the VR does have an impact on the Nav system. I had that problem when I first got my car. If your dealer has not done a software reinstall, havce him do it. If he had, have him re-do it, as it is notorious for failing during download. As far as I know, the DRL is a simple check-off. The fact that yours didn't take is further evidence of a failed software install.
