JCW Carbon Fiber Wing Spoiler 2006 R53

So I went to the MINI takes the states - Miami 2008 this past weekend... Nice!.... And I saw first time the JCW wing, awesome!!! I want to get it, BUT... I went to the dealer yesterday to buy it and I got 2 big surprises... first the price... $1200 installed!... and second... it is glued to the car!! =O
I don't want to imagine that nice and expensive wing flying away on the road at high speed or something like that!
So I need some advice and opinions... Is it safe being glued? Any issues reported? Any aerodynamic improvements? How hard is to install it if I do it myself?

Thanks for your help.

Here's a much better price if you are talking about this one? I'm sure the glue isn't an issue, sure looks nice!

Thanks!! Yeah is way cheaper, he told me about $550 with installation kit and shipping... The dealer charges $699 for it + $90 for installation kit + $381 for 3 hours of work + an extra....
Now my question is, how hard is to install and if is any issues reported.
thanks

mine has held up very well. i went the extra mile and had the body shop weld the holes and fill and paint the roof to give it a cleaner look. the "glue" they use is windshield butyl and is crazy stong. the wind will break before it comes off i promise.

a whistle that starts at about 35 and greadually gets louder. i dotn mind. i actually kind of like it. its funny but if the car was doing that without a reason i would get sick of it and concerned. but i know what it is and thouroughly enjoy it. its all how you perceive things i guess.
on a 1-10 scale i would say its a 4-5 in noise level. think of a birdy in the backseat chirping at 75mph.

Love the wing.

The original mounting holes are left exposed if you change wings on an S? I have an 05 in the same color and was considering the JCW Wing. If you can post any more pics I'd appreciate it.

Funny they say it will take 3hrs because MINI's instructions state the following:

"Installation work will take approx. 1.25 hours (including dismantling the standard spoiler); this time may vary depending on the condition and equipment specification of the car."

The wing actually comes with little fin style caps to cover the holes. You can see them in this picture...

Did you install it yourself? How long it took and how hard is it?
thanks

The pick isn't of my car, my JCW is sitting in the basement waiting to be installed.

I just bought one of the last ones. Only 2 left in the states and one is on its way to me
I'm wondering if I should do it myself or have a shop do it so I don't get a whistle or slop it up and put it on sideways

Thanks.

Love your cooper btw. Of course, I'm probably biased
Wish I could get the full aero kit though.
I have the aero grill retro-fitted to stock bumper and it looks okay. Might pick up the side skirts - we'll see.

Still have mine sitting in a box
Trying to decide if I want to keep it or send it back and perhaps get koni yellow sport suspension or jcw 380's & jcw tune. So torn, so torn. I love the look of it and I know if I sell it I would be hard pressed to find another whereas suspension and jcw injectors I can get anytime but either one of those will enhance the feel and/or performance of the car...

Since the spoiler/wing is finished in carbon fiber, think I would benefit from adding carbon fiber mirror caps (if I can find them) or have my mirror caps painted black?

paipuky - have you picked up your jcw wing yet?

Haha. Yeah I guess so. I like the look alot but just not sure I want it that bad. I'm still torn but if I find a serious buyer it's sold.

I guess I just feel like I would need to see it in person to really decide. Even better on an indi blue/hyper blue car. Better still on mine...
