Well, I put my deposit down on my IB/W MCS last night. I’ve been looking at it for about 2 weeks now in the showroom, the Passat has an interested buyer, and I didn’t want to miss my chance! They will now pull the car off the showroom floor and safely tuck it away until the Passat is gone or three weeks, whichever comes first.

My question is, how many of you were lucky enough to find the car you wanted at your local dealership (or any dealership for that matter) and buy it without having to go through the whole ordering process? I’m thrilled that I found exactly what I wanted at the dealership less than 10 minutes from my house. I know it’s extremely rare, at least around here, for dealers to have any cars on their lot that aren’t already spoken for, and the car I’m buying was in the front window for at least 2 weeks without being sold. I think it was waiting for me.

But I have to say I do kind of feel like I’m missing out on something because I don’t get to be in one of the “Can’t wait for ______” clubs.

found mine on the showrom too. Looked at a jb/w MC fisrt, didn't buy, went back 2 weeks later and the cr/w MC that was on the showroom then was still there and had exactly what I would've ordered on it. Drove it home the next day!! Personally, i'm very glad I didn't have to wait 2 months to get one!!

It's simple, Robyn. Just start a "Can't wait to sell my car and buy a MINI" club. It is timeless.

FYI, I first rode in a MINI on August 14, 2002, ordered mine on March 4, 2003, and it arrives in New York on August 23. At the moment it is off the coast of Nova Scotia (Cape Breton Island, to be more precise). Over a year of study, planning, waiting. Certainly unlike any previous car purchase.

Congrats! I was in the "Can't Believe They've Got One Coming Club". Once I knew exactly what I wanted, (MCS, DS/DS, lux. grp.), the dealer checked and found one was already on its way in and not yet purchased. Only waited a couple of weeks.

Trust me, I am well aware of how lucky I am. I walked around that car 10 times last night and looked inside too, figuring there had to be something wrong with it since it was still there. Couldn't find anything.

I've got a Powerball ticket for tonight's drawing. Maybe my luck will hold on long enough for that.

I guess if you live in Plainsboro and the dealership is close by, you're buying from Princeton.

Caveat Emptor.

I have nothing but bad things to say about them. Enjoy the car, I hope it works out for you!

Dave, I have also heard bad things about them as far as their service dept. goes and I have already resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably end up going up to Morristown when I need service. If I had had to order a car I also planned on going to Morristown.

We were that lucky. We walked into Downtown MINI which is 15 blocks from our house and asked them if they had an IB/W Cooper with CVT. Turned out there was one sitting in their storage facility. We went back a few days later to see the car and bought it. They needed two days to add our options and we picked up the car and took it home. Took 5 days from the day we first walked in there to take delivery. How do you all stand the wait?

James

I was lucky too. I wasn't really seriousy shopping but I made the mistake of test driving the demo back in Oct 2002. I came back the next weekend and bought my MCS from the dealer stock with DS/WT, LB leather, alarm, clear bra, and nothing else.
I had also recently test driven a VW GTI, Civic Si, and a WRX wagon while out goofing around and, as you can see none of them had the effect on me that the MCS did.

Saw one for the first time at a local Micky D's in early 2002 (when the lines had formed for test drives). The driver was a sales associate at the dealer and let me sit and check out the car while he bought grub. Nice guy. loved the car but wasn't in the market for a new one. Took his card, tho. May of 2003 looked the guy up and finally went and ordered my EB/W. Took all of 8 weeks to arrive. Consider yourself extremely luck Jgirl. Slowest 2 months of my life, even on vacation.

BTW, LOVE that dash. Want that dash. Need that dash!

Buy a dust cover for the M. You won't be using it much anymore

I got very lucky as well. I was idlely shopping, thinking I wanted a car in about 6 months. I knew I wanted a MCS.

I was debating which local dealership to order from. I stopped in the dealers about a half hour before closing on Sunday and asked what they had available, after noticing a couple new MCS's on the show room floor (only 2 unsold). Apparently a shipment had come in Saturday after. My salesgirl was calling people and telling them their Mini's were in. She had just gotten off the phone with a guy who cancelled on a Mini spec'd precisely as I wanted (BRG/B all 3 packages, leather). I went out back, saw the car, and handed over my deposit. I had him within the week. When I went back Tuesday afternoon to deal with some paperwork, both of the other MCS's were sold. And Monday had been a holiday.

Consider me one of the lucky ones. I knew I wanted a MCS, basically loaded, and was kinda open as far as the color goes. When I saw the DS/DS color on a loaded MCS I was hooked.

I took it home the next day.

You people who did not wait the 6 months are missing %75 of the MINI purchase experience!

It's missing all that anticipation and waiting. Worrying about the travel, and watching every tracking site every day for a month. Calling the dealer "is it ready, is it ready?!"

It was the easy way out. After tracking mine obsessively across the Atlantic I am now told it should be at the dealer by the end of this week or early next. Only because it's been such hell for me do I try to spin it that it has been a positive growth experience. You know, learning how to defer gratification.

Congratulations to all who found the easy way out. When I had the test drive I thought they were baiting me to buy. They put me in one configured and colors just like I'd mailed them (except no sport seats; I could have lived without them). Expecting the "motoring advisor" so smile and say sure when I asked if I could just take that one, he said someone else had recently spoken for it. :???:

I haven't eaten or slept much, I've taken to drink, and lost my job obsessing after that one slipped through. Easy is good, believe me.
