J.D Power survey hit MINI pretty hard with the cup holder issues.
Instead of sell the MINI FINI cup holder, shouldn't it be free for all MINI owners?
it will not resolve the problem buy supply a extra part which people needs to pay for it.

A more than 20K Car dose not come with a resonable cup holder?

MINI owners needs to spend extra money to buy a cup holder to hold their large beverages??????

Sell it is not a option. if they send me a J.D Power survey now. I still will address the problem. People complain about the cupholder is not because there is no cupholder available. there are tons of company sell cupholders!!!!!

Fellow MINI owners, it is not very expensive to buy a MINI FINI Cup holder, but how many people think it is OUR responsability to take care ourself with OUR expense on the cup holder issues?

Are we willing to do that???

To be honest, I wouldn't install the cupholder even if MINI sent it to me. For one, I think it's an eyesore. The other thing is that I don't have any problem with the cupholders. It fits a dasani bottle, a regular sized coke from Wendy's, and its size is just suited to my needs. If I need to hold a larger beverage, I'll use the one behind the handbrake. I like the front cupholders b/c they are mini in my MINI.

Okay...
I think everybody needs to get over the cup holders already! How many of us really need to store a big gulp while you drive?

My Mini replaced my Alfa Romeo 164S and that car had NO cup holders at all. Not even a place you could stuff a cup in a pinch. Did I care? No. It was a great car, and a drivers car. If I wanted to tool around town sippin' on a big gulp, I would have purchased an SUV.

My Mini has 3 cup holders! And they are not even the usual ugly holes in the console like so many cars today have. Those cars seem to give the cupholder equal importance with the shift lever or steering wheel.

I am amazed that I have such an abundance of cupholders in this car. I can store all kinds of things in them.

MINIUSA already went out of their way to compensate owners (for the small cup holders) by sending us a free MINI stainless stell (?) coffee cup that fits the front cup holders exactly. to see what i'm talking about, it's on the MINIUSA.com website. i purchased my MINI in late April and received the mug by late June.

I don't really care one way or the other regarding this issue. But are you REALLY trying to say that the free cup they sent us fits in one of the front cup holders??!! If I put my coffee in it in the morning and set off down the road I have to literally pry it out of the front cup holders. It goes in the rear cup holder just fine. Problem being...I forget it's there and when I go back out to my car in the afternoon, my car stinks of coffee.

I almost like the no-cupholder idea... it's let's motor, not let's take a big swig of something... but what doesn't fit in the front, i put in the back.. and if it's too big for that, I make the wife hold it, because she usually bought it... (Her cup holders work better.. of course, it's a Chevy Cavalier, so there you go..)

i personally dont use the cup holder at all. I'm not a hugh size person so i can not consum large amount of water .

My point on this issue is we are fooled by the big corp strategy. they have cup holder issue, people complain, they make a cup holder, there you go. no complain! the fact, we still have no cup holder in the car. we can buy one before, even MINI dose not have a OEM one we still can buy other ones. the fact did not change at all on this issue.

I just dont wanna be fool by them, seems that we are very easy to be fooled by their so-call "strategy".

People addressed the cup-holder issue in JD Power survey because it is the truth and they care. they looking for improvement. MINI USA did send bounch of mugs, which most people happy about it. I might too. But the new cup-holder parts need to be purchased individally and not come with the car, this is where i got frustrated.
I just feel that MINI corp play all this tricks and try to win us, just like the issue about MCO. they came out some BS about the name, when there are thousands of other websites has the same issue. MINIUSA love this site so much and decided to take this one out first. they will keep playing their big corp tricks until they see the wall!!

You test drove the car with the small cup holder, right? You bought the car anyways knowing it had small cup holders, right? No misrepresentation was made so MINI, right? They owe you nothing.
I bought the new cup holder this past weekend and really like it. $35 isn't that bad.

Just my $.02

Chris

"bladder buster," I like that...it's funny. I for one put my big gulps or power sized Jamba Juice in the rear cup holder. I find the two front cup holders are great for my cell phone and coins, etc.

Ya seriously people need to get off teh cup holder... 20K car and no dedcent cup holder? how about a $100,000+ car and no decent cup holder? You see the cup holders before you bought the car should have thought about it before buying it. MINI USA shouldnt and does need to provide any type of cups or cup holder for anyone IMO.

Agreed, I don't care about the cupholders. I never had a car with cupholders before. People drink too much soda anyway, what's this love affair Americans have with eating and drinking in their car? It's no wonder that such a large percentage of our population is overweight/obese.

I also don't agree that it's some sort of strategy. Don't know the history, but it seems to me that Mini-Fini is an independent company who went to the trouble to become authorized by BMW and will be distributing products through MINI dealerships.

The mug is cool, but it does not help when getting takeout food.

Really it may be something they do for the heck of it instead of and maybe in addition to the cup.

I think either or both are fine. I mean afterall if someone is so fixated on the cup issue, well there are many more conciderations that ought to be preoccupying you.

I however would be delighted if one of them came in the mail for me.

I agree with others here - the cupholders were there to see when you test-drove the car. What you saw was what you got.

That said, I bought the mini-fini cupholder mostly for my wife, who ALWAYS brings a large water with her in the car. So I spent $35, one time, to solve the problem.

Conspiracy? Someone needs a hobby...

Here's some news from a month ago that should interest anyone getting an '04: http://www.bridger.us/mini/?Y=2003&M...mingForTheMINI

Personally I think the fuss over having a large cup-holder has been blown way out of proporation.

That being said I have the MINI FINI cupholder and it works fantastic. I'd highly recommend checking with your local MINI dealer to see if they have them in stock if you need something bigger than the stock holders.

BTW Here's a review of the MINI FINI Cup-Link system: http://www.bridger.us/mini/?Y=2003&M...ystem#Comments

NOPE, no way it is their responsibility. How many cars are out there without cupholders. I remember a funny commercial some years ago when Chevy made fun of themselves (the Corvette) for not having a cupholder... How about the New Beetles, those cupholders are just as useless, but they didn't redesign it until the 2003 model year... so for 1998-02 they made a $15 accessory available.

Bottom line, they built a product and we decided we liked it, so we bought it, end of story. The cup holder isn't NECESSARY, newsflash, you don't need to DRINK in order to DRIVE. Sure, I like the convenience of dropping a Sobe or snapple into the cupholder of my Jeep, but I survive if something doesn't fit. I think it is a sad statement that us Fat Americans would NEED a super-size, grande, mocha, frappacino to DRIVE?

I agree, it wasn't like the size of the cupholder was hidden before you bought the car. MINI didn't have to put in cup holders at all. The fact that they sent out the mug was actually kind of impressive to me. Honestly, I don't know what all the fuss is about with the mug. It does fit in the standard cupholders in my car, and it does so securely. Yes the shfter slightly obstructs the cupholder, but I can still get the mug in with little difficulty.

I do feel that the exisiting cupholders are tiny, so I bought the ones from Moss.

I couldn't care less about the cup holders or mugs!!!!

I think MINI was blasted in the JDP survey NOT JUST because of the cup holders, but the holders were a fine way out of the abysmal ratings. MINI fared so poorly in the JDP because MINIs still have significant quality issues.

I would much, much rather MINI address the significant quality issues than silly cup holders:

Sub-standard windshield
Stumble
Find a better solution to the PS fan
Interior trim peeling
All the groans, rattles squeaks

and quite a few more.

Just my 2c.

Why should MINI provide cupholders that most consumers will never use due to the fact that drinking while lurching about town leads to a soda-drenched interior?

That said, I quote... someone (can't remember who):

<<< It goes in the rear cup holder just fine. Problem being...I forget it's there and when I go back out to my car in the afternoon, my car stinks of coffee.>>>

If you forget it's there, you weren't terribly interested in the coffee in the first place, now were ya?

Honestly, being German, I don't know what the American fascination is with cupholders. My favorite quote on the subject came from a BMW rep at the annual Z3 Labor Day party at the facotry in S. Carolina.

Asked about the lack of cupholders in the Z3, he responded: When your living room sofa comes with a steering wheel we'll put cupholders in our cars.

Well, obviously BMW has caved in to consumer demand since then, but seriously you're either driving or you're not.

I bought a friggin' SPORTS CAR, not a coffee table!

There are things that I would complain about, such as if my car didn't make the advertised HP, or had serious quality issues. I think MINIUSA addressed the cup holder issue by designing a special mug for the underdash holder, and MINI FINI has an aftermarket solution for the big gulp crowd. Do they "owe" us? Of course not, don't be absurd.

If its cup holders you want, buy a coffee table or a Minivan.

Agreed, this is just a ridiculous post. Did you see the car when you bought it? Yes. Were you forced to be it? No. So stop complaining about a ridiculous issue.
