At this point, I would sign the poll to get ANY response out of MINIUSA on their lack of customer service.

No, I don't think MINI should provide MINIFINI cupholders for free. In fact, I don't find the existing cup holders to be that big of a problem. The front ones fit cans just fine, and the rear one (which is very accessible to front passengers) fits just about anything else.

It would have been very cool if MINI had designed the MINIFINI cupholder and sent that out instead of the mugs, but they didn't, and that's that. And even then, I wouldn't have used it, personally.

The free mug MINI sent out went above and beyond the call of duty, in my opinion. People saw the car before they purchased it, so it's really the purchaser's fault if they bought into a car design they were unhappy with.

I wish MINI would put as much emphasis on fixing real flaws (like the engine management software issues many of us are experiencing) as they did the darn cupholders. I'd be tickled pink if I could just drive away from a standing start without the MINI jerking every time.

See ya,
JS

<<<A mid $20k car with less acoutrements than the WRX, RSX, Si, SVT, and SRT-4.>>>

What on earth do they have, acoutrement-wise, that the MINI doesn't??? Seriously, guys, the couch/steering wheel quote was right on. Are you buying it to drive it, or are you buying it as a mobile addition to your living room? Big cup holders, DVD players... crikey! Buy the P.Diddy Navagator and get on with it!

No. I don’t think they need to supply any more cup holders.

I use the existing cup holders to hold toothpicks and my cell phone. How the heck am I to drive the way I like to while sipping on a soda?

While I am driving I don’t talk on my cell phone, I don’t eat or drink, I don’t comb my hair-I drive!

If cupholders were that big of an issue...why buy a MINI? Besides, I'm guessing everyone here had the same chance I had to check out the car before plunking down my 20+k.

Actually, those cars are all about the same price as my MCS...but none of them do what my MCS does. My girlfriend owns a WRX...and when I was out of town for two weeks for work she drove the MCS most of the time. Her reason..."It's just so much fun to drive"..."It's Zippy!" That's what I bought the MCS for...not to win the supertuner challenge.

Oh yeah...the WRX has shitty cupholders...and only two of them. I'd rather have the MINI cupholders.

I knew about the cup holder issue before I bought my car. Nothing I had before had any cupholders anyway. True, in a long drive I wish I could set a cup in the front holder easier, but I either use the rear holder or buy bottled drinks and set those in the area of the floor next to the seat adjusters.

You can buy a Caravan with 14 cupholders. I'll take the MINI over the minivan thankyaverymuch.

Point is, people complaining about such issues with the MINI may or may not have gotten the wrong car for their needs. You don't buy a MINI if you are a soccer mom. People used to complain about there not being enough ashtrays and cigaret lighters in cars. Back then there were no cupholders in cars. Times and tastes change.

Americans are size-obsessed when it comes to drinks anyway. I'm sorry, but no one needs a 48 ounce Big Belch. To me, considering cupholder size and placement is not a quality issue. It's one more of ergonomics and design, not a defect. The MINI was designed around 'Euro-sized' and canned drinks anyway. Look at your tailpipe and you can see the influence there.

Excuse my arrogant minded attitude, but do we really want to continue posting to a thread about cupholders? Like everyone else has mentioned, did you buy the car for the cupholders, or the fun? Geez people, cupholders!!!

I can't imagine what people viewing this site; possibly thinking about purchasing a MINI, think after looking at this topic.

Truth is people, the MINI is so well built and, JD Powers could only fault the car due to its lack of cup holders. I understand that Ferrari's and Lamborgini's have the same problem (no cupholders).

If your looking for a little "hot rod", the MINI's it. IF your looking to travel with the wife and kids, or like to eat and drive, there's much more appropriate vehicles out there from which to choose from.

Besides, you probably already saw that commercial on TV, where after a short ride, the unknowing passinger opened a can of coke. Bad idea!

my point on this topic is that MINIUSA did not change anything on the cup holder issue. What it seems to me here is the topic is focus on the cup holder.

I dont care about the cup holder just like i have mentioned. I care about what has been changed from MINIUSA, how the care about us. they have been doing a good job on the mugs, but what's next. keep sending mugs??

if anyone want to talk more about resolving the issues, please go ahead. if anyone wants talk about the holders, please save the typing. we got the point already.

We at MCO are famous for talking endlessly on a whole range of topics...many even more irrelevant than this! Why not...after awhile it gets funny. It doesn't seem to matter how much typing is involved we're just a chatty bunch!

Okay I'll make it even more obvious than my previous post - MINIUSA has resolved this issue with all 2004 MINIs. There will be a special surprise for everyone getting an '04 MINI that will eliminate this "problem".

No, I don't think they should supply us with free cupholders. Did you not know what you were buying when you bought it? It reminds me of the people who complained about the "stiff suspension" who somehow got BMW/MINI to change it for everyone in the future.

Actually I'm not sure what your point is here.

So MINI didn't change the design of the cupholder, they did however respond to owners comments in this case.

Further griping to JD Powers about your cupholder will do nothing. If your going to complain to JD Power, complain about the problems that MINI hasn't addressed at all. You know the stumble, the cracked windshields etc....

I just get the little cardboard drink holders when I get take-out. Then I put all the dirnks in their fast food holders on the passenger side floor. Works fine for me! Where there is a will, there is a way! Did anyone really get the car because it is PRACTICLE!?!?!? Puh-leeze! We all got it for the same basic reason...it makes us smile!

ok, i think it is a good idea that we use all our power to address the Windshield issues. that is the other thing i have see in this site which scared me.

I have never pay any car for windshield. I dont think it will make sense to me to pay for the windshield.

In a word, i will not like to pay for any thing extra for anything not suppose to happen. ( i know it might not be true but this is my wish)

This thread can't be happening. Definitely a low point in the history of MCO. Kind of embarassing, really.

Anyone who complains about cupholders bought the wrong "mini". My neighbor's minivan has 17.

Get over it and drive the car.

Regards,
Red

1) The other post (in Interior/Exterior) has been locked. If there are other duplicate threads, inform me and I'll take care of it. There is no point to a poll when the discussion isn't focused in ONE SPOT. For that reason, duplicate threads are not permitted on MINI COOPER Online. See the site guidelines if you have any questions.

2) You agreed to buy the car as is. MINI has no responsibility to do anything else for you in terms of giving you cupholders or free rear fog upgrades. They can provide a kit for retrofit for those that want to pay for it, but they are under no obligation to provide upgrades or new features to owners of earlier models for FREE.

Well, I want door lock pulls that you can pull... and jacks so I can jump my car, and special grippy tires so i can drive up clifs, and tree cutting saws for the front, and a watertight/bulletproof exterior, and searchlights for the front, and an oxygen supply for when i'm driving underwater, and a built in flying robot....

Oh wait, i bought a MINI not a real Mach Five..

I find the cup holders fit my needs very well. I use the ashtray as a coin holder, the other front cup holder as a place to lay my cell phone in and the rear cup holder to hold my drink. After a week I knew exactly how far to reach without looking to put my drink in the rear cup holder.
