does anyone know where i can find a turbo kit online?
i've been looking for months now and can't find one, i'm not even sure if they have on for a non s cooper?
thanks!
Υοu can get the inlet manifold/throtlle body from the S version, buy an Alta turbo manifold, a front mount and build a turbo kit. But the bottom end will need big changes (forged pistons, rods, S crankshaft), lower the compression, and the most difficult part will the mapping of the ECU. Doable but very very expensive. Also the tranny will not be able to handle the power, you'll need the R53 gearbox. In other words... better get an S and tune it

+1
This topic has been covered quite extensively here in the Gen.1 Non-S group here in the NAM. Search around a little and you'll find them and if you're smart, you'll stay away from most of them. A lot of them are shoddily put together at best.
There are kits for coopers out there, but its not a car that you can throw a turbo on and go. You will destroy your internals and transmission...as stated before, it's very very expensive. But if you're in love with your cooper and trading it for an S is not an option, start with a 6 spd swap, then build up your internals, then go for it. (or get an S engine). There is supposedly a couple of different stroker motors from rmw that will be available, that may be a better route.
There is a place near me that is like car modding heaven. Tonnes of car shops, engine specialists, tranny specialists etc. One guy I know of does full engine rebuilds, turboing and supercharging. (He builds drift cars and drag cars) He says that him and his team can do it to any car, but as everyone has said, the stock engine just cant handle it, neither can the ECU. Technically with enough money you could turbo anything.
I plan on waiting until something breaks in the engine, then I will replace it with a 2.0 stroker and do a 6spd swap. (she doesn't know that it's relatively easy to replace engine internals). Then I will consider the turbo option. Its the only way I could convince the wife to let me do this! Its only a matter of time. I'm at 110k miles now, I'm trying real hard to break the engine, but it just wont break! I'm having fun trying though.
Million Forged factory motors in junkyard near you or they ship around the world

Sell the base motor before you blow it and a used s motor with forged pistons and the head has oil squirter's and it is cheaper than blow your motor and send something through the hood and if you really want to let it go drain the water and go drive it normally when you are having fun trying to blow it up reving it to the moon what do you do when you crash the car and now you have a wrecked car and blown motor might be able to sell the antenna off the roof if it doesn't end up on the roof u pull it all 4 cylinder heads are the same price and ur trying to piece together something that is already a million used s & JCW motors for sale and there only a thousand bucks more than a base and see 0-60 times because of the base being the lightest of them all it's 7.5 seconds and the S is 6.7 seconds so ur going to have more time I value mine but it tuner is going to love you because he's got as long as it takes because it's not a factory car but more go and not improving brakes is possible to leave in the morning and never make it back to the house so your probably not even able to go around the road coarse wide open yet as it's practice and more practice my 390 lb cbr600rr has same HP as a mini I have 2010 base but with the entire parts needed to make it into a JCW or s is just in the junkyard and if it was crashed it had to be moving besides the ECU and everything else is going to be able to be exchanged for one with a tune but piece together with a bunch of different aftermarket parts is not how to do it on a budget but it's a good idea for the second time around when you want to have a 500 HP base mini but if you don't have everything you need it's going to cost twice as much as a real JCW and when you want to get rid of it the JCW is always going to be more valuable as well as collectable and going to be a classic just like the 40th anniversary of the winning LeMans car they're going to be saught after always
