I was wondering why the Clubman has only one type of 15 " wheel available while the Cooper has a choice from two, both of which I find more appealing? After reading a lot of the posts regarding the 16" run flats and the ride, I opted for the basic, but would have preferred a choice. Has anyone had a dealer swap the cooper 15" onto a clubman?

 

I had a wheel problem on my Clubman S, and the dealer tried to swap a set of 15"s onto it temporarily. They wouldn't fit over the brakes. I don't know if the S and non-S have different brakes, but not fitting might be a good reason.

They do have different brakes....the S brakes are bigger. 15's still fit the non-S brakes.

I'm not sure why they only have one option though

biggest i would go is 17" unless you plan to go euro slammed with a deep offset and phat lip then i would do 16s. the dark wheel lip makes the 15s look tiny.

 

Just say 18" on a cooper s and it did not look like a 4x4. It looked like a sports car instead of a wee little car. A 18" rim does not add to width hardley at all.

Here's what I was referring to. Both cars are running the same coilovers....both are tucking tire about the same amount. Compare the distance of the sideskirts or bumper to the ground. My guess is that the 18" equipped car has a good 1.5-2 inches of additional ground clearance. Honestly I was just joking aroun (hence the smilies)....but figured I'd atleast point out where I was coming from since it's pretty hard to have the lowered look with the big 18s. I've only seen a few people do it successfully.

I missed this part of the question originally. It's definitely worth asking the dealer. It depends on the dealer....but many times they'll be more than willing to swap 15's. They may have a spare set lying around from someone who upgraded to aftermarket wheels or they may be willing to swap with one of the un-sold coopers on the lot. Doesn't hurt to ask

 

Can we re-focus on the original question? Are there any alternatives to the standard 15" wheel offered on the Clubman? I'm not interested in the "larger" tires, although I must admit I think it an oxymoron to talk about large wheels on a mini....sort of like jumbo shrimp!

 

Yeppers, the 15" wheels are fugly.
There are no sports seats in the Clubman, either.

The reason they don't offer any other 15" wheels is to get you to move up to 16's and 17's...simple tactic..this is why there are more options with one model over the next...might as well and get 18's and lower it...

then you need a body kit...tinted...humm...little carbon fiber here...some over there...maybe some stripes...or some other overlays..crap...why did I come in here?

 

As mentioned earlier....for unknown reasons they didn't include the other 15" style wheel. It's not a brake fitment issue as the clubman R55 MC has the same brakes as the regular R56 MC which has multiple options. Sometimes MINI makes decisions not to offer things and it's anybody's guess when it comes to their reasoning

Ask your dealer and see what he says....he may be willing to just swap for ya

Hmmm...I've got the sport seats in my clubman....and it's an option on the spec program.

 

My 15" wheels look great, are light weight, clean very easily, and provide a nicely balanced ride. They also take relatively inexpensive regular tires that provide a very supple ride.

 

Even as a 15" wheel lover, an owner of a clubman with those 15" wheels installed (temporarily atleast)....I'd agree with the consensus that they're pretty unattractive...the style isn't very flattering for the lines of the car and their width leaves a great deal to be desired.....but the ride is certainly comfy

 

The problem with 15" wheels IMO, they look weird when you look at the rest of the car...wheels should accent the vehicle and honestly the 15" models just say...hey...look...I'm small and unattractive but stable and cheaper to shoe.

Rally, you had to pay for the Clubman's sports seats.
They're standard with the Clubman S.

The cost of options on the Clubman vs. Standard items on the Clubman S brought the prices closer than the base price.
MPG is still a difference.

Hey, wheels are a huge personal preference.

 

i am really tempted to find a mint set of Holies to run on my Clubman ... best wheels MINI made bar none!

Here is a follow up to my original question. If I go with the 16" wheels which are the run flats, can I later change them to regular 16" tires or do they have to be replaced with the same type of tire?
