R55 Question about bonnet stripes
Question about bonnet stripes
I just ordered a Clubman with the bonnet stripes but failed to ask the MA and before I called him I figured I would ask you guys. I've seen pictures of stripes that are close together and some are further apart. And also some of them have the stripes on the back doors. Do u have do specify which ones u want? I ordered the "S" with Pepper White/black roof/black stripes.
thanks
thanks
Also, bonnet stripes are only on the bonnet and are installed at the factory. Sport stripes are on the bonnet and boot doors and are installed at the dealer. They'll be more expensive in most cases.
One other thing: as the son of a school teacher, I feel compelled to ask you to spell the word "you" correctly. Since we aren't texting or "Instant Messaging", time is not of the essence and your posts will look much nicer if you take the time to spell "you" correctly. Sorry to complain, blame my mother.

2. What on Earth do politics have to do with this?
Thanks to all for the clarification on the stripes, about typing "u" instead of "you" actually I was pressed for time, I'm a flight attendant and had about 5 minutes before I had to catch a flight I was working.
Didn't know I would get "flamed" for that, you guys are harsh here.
I'm on two other boards "Classic Z cars" and a Lexus forum and they are a little more relaxed over there.

Historical Note on bonnet stripes
The bonnet stripes come from John Cooper's race cars (and maybe his rally cars, too - I just can't remember). If you look at pictures of works Cooper F1 cars from the 50's and 60's they had similar stripes. I'm certainly no expert on this, but I think that Jack Brabham's championship winning Cooper was black with white stripes....or maybe it was because almost all the pictures were black and white....

Anyway, the conclusion was that indeed John Cooper was the first to put stripes on his race cars.
I e-mailed John Cooper Works and asked them to forward my e-mail to Mike Cooper, John Cooper's son. I wanted to know what he knew about his father's putting striped on his cars. His reply (!) :
double bonnet stripes

Dear John – thank you for your e mail which has been forwarded to me and with reference to the original bonnet stripes that were on my father’s racing cars in the 50s and 60s, in the 50s the car companies tended to run their cars in their country’s colours, i.e. green for Great Britain, red for Ferrarri, silver for Mercedes. With the British contingency all entries together with Vanwalls and BRMs’ entries were distinguished by the two white stripes running down the front of the cars. I believe the first cars that ran with the white stripes were in 1959 on F1 and F2 cars. The white stripes continued on the Cooper Car Co. cars right through the 60s and of course included the Works Mini Cooper Saloon cars. This was even transferred to the Classic Mini and even adorns new MINI Coopers sold by BMW today. As for the reason as to why my father put two white stripes on I am not absolutely sure but I will endeavour to find out

Please note that "Instant Messaging" should not be in quotations. Also, there should be a semi-colon in the last sentence, not a comma. There is also an issue with using "we" and "your" in your second sentence. It should read either "we" and "our", or "you" and "your".

Wait, you edited it. I refer to the penultimate period.
