Okay, I did it and ordered my Clubman SS/Blk with HC (leather/cloth) antracite, etc. etc. However, my dealer told me that the delivery is projected to October and that I should not expect a production number until at least six weeks from placing my order!
Is that a valid estimate or are they batching orders for other reasons? I have been reading many posts and it appears that orders are placed by dealers with the factory within 24 hours of signing and then it is only a matter of days before a production number is obtained. What should I expect as being "reasonable?"

Based on volume, dealers have to wait for their allotments by the factory. Larger dealerships are able to get their orders in faster.
Some NAM folks have shopped around, and gone with dealers that aren't local (500. . . 1000 miles away) for much faster processing. Then they have one heck of a fun drive home with their MINI!
You'd have to call around, then decide what's best for your situation. Personally, I like the security of a close-by dealer, but others who really comfortable tinkering with cars don't care as much. Your service dept doesn't have to be the dealer you buy from.
Good luck!

I'm up in RI and just ordered a Clubman S from Inskip MINI which is local. I got my production number in 10 minutes. Still waiting to see what the production date will be but I am told that it should be the end of July. I think thats pretty good!
I have an 03 MCS now and when I bought that there was a 9 month wait so I took a flight to a Long Island dealership to pick one up. They only had a 3 month wait. So, it depends how badly you want it. I say go crazy!

I've seen a lot of new orders on the board for October delivery...I guess people are getting MINI fever with gas prices being what they are. Now, you wait and enjoy your summer...OR shop around and see if you can find your car on the lot. Good luck!
Sounds about right, we ordered 5/31 and no production number yet. Our MA called and said our order was keyed in last Mon, June 9. I think we will have our number in the next week. She told us to expect an early Sept delivery. My dealer is one of only 2 in the state here, and I think they are a pretty busy MINI dealership. The wait is difficult, but I tell myself I have lots of time to save a whopper down payment, I can read and learn every detail of the car, and I can stockpile detailing supplies.
I put money down on June 3rd and had my production # on June 5th. The dealer is in Scottsdale, AZ, however it will be "about 4 months" until it arrives.

shamus, your experience is something that those of us who've been on this section of NAM for a while have read about before...follow Scoopmamma's lead if you want to see if you can get your Clubman sooner.
It all comes down to allotments and timing. Clearly your dealership is backed up (meaning they've had a lot of orders)... I suggest making calls to various dealerships beginning with those closest to you and working your way out... This way, you'll know you've covered your bases, hedged your bets...if you want to see if you can get a production number right away which translates into a much earlier delivery. It's possible that many dealerships are past their allotments due to the good PR that higher gas prices have given these MINIs.

Just a note for you. I had a production number before i even finished writing out the down payment check. In fact the MA showed me the listing of production numbers they had out through the end of July. The dealesr have this number they probably just do not want to give it out until they have confirmation from the factory.
On another note. I ordered mine in April for a week 18 build. It was built that week and shipped that week. It arrived 4 weeks before the estimated delivery date. Not all people have seen this but there are reports that cars at least in some locations are arriving early.

As you weigh your options, make sure that your understand the loaner car policy of the dealer you want to take to to for warranty work. Not all will provide one if you didn't buy there. Since there is very limited price flexibility, this may or may not be a relevant factor.

Oc-fricking-tober! Yikes.
Prepare for the torturous wait.
Once you do have a production number, you can set up a profile on MiniUSA.com/owners lounge.
At this time, you'll learn a Mini music tune that will make you crazy.
I warned you.

Wow October seems like a long time. I ordered mine on May 15th and it finished production today June 11th. Your wait really depends on your dealers allocation. I lucked out. I could have gotten even luckier, the guy that bought his just before me like 15min got finished a week earlier than mine. You might try shopping around at other dealers to see if they have one going into production sooner.
I specifically chose a dealer much further away from home because they had a production slot for right now. I got a production number about an hour after confirming the order.
I live in North Jersey and shopped (on the internet and phone) dealers from Hartford and Albany down to northern Virginia. I will have to drive about 2 hours to pick up my car.
It's worth a few calls or emails, I guess.
One thing that's pretty worthless is the inventory listed on MiniUSA.com. The info is stale; every car I called about was sold.

Oops. I forgot the original point to my other reply.
To shamus kay -- welcome to the ranks of those waiting for their Clubbie to come in. I started my journey to Mini ownership while on a trip to G'burg. When I sat in a Clubbie and fit in the backseat (I'm over six feet by a little), it was all over.
Congrats!
