Leaving her alone!

I'm leaving poor Viola alone for the first time tomorrow. I'm heading back to the flat to visit my folks for a few days because my grandmother's in the hospital... and here I am, worried sick about my poor little MINI. I'm afraid that my husband may drive her, or that my kids may nick the paint with their bikes, or worse yet, that my husband may let his friends sit inside the car!

I know that she needs some quiet time to plot world domination from the comfort and safety of her own garage, but... I don't want to leave my car! I wish that she really did fit in my pocket so I could take her with me.

I know how it feels. I was up at my college for a two day orientation and all I could think about was how my MINI wasing going to have to sit outside under a tree for two days.

I know how you feel. We went to Vegas for three days and the first thing I did after we got home was to do a quick walk around my Mini and check it out. My husband just shook his head at me. He doesn't understand, but I do!

In July my Mother & I are flying to Alaska to see my Daughter for 5 days, hubby will be left home to Babysit "Molly"...I'm worried SICK!! He doesn't take care of her like I do!! She is our commuter car so he will still be driving her to work, but how am I going to know who else he has in the car? How many 'extra' miles he is putting on her or how he is driving her and where is he PARKING her??!!

I would like to think that most men take honor and trustworthiness seriously, I know I do. At the very least, that the last person they would lie to or deceive is their own wife. The word of one's other half should be enough to dispell any fears of missuse or use of the car.

Or you could take all of the keys with you.

Perhaps a webcam setup would be a good answer. You could satisfy your need to be with Viola while keeping tabs on security as well. Hmmmm that gives me ideas . . .

I know how you feel.

A year ago, my wife and I and our best friends celebrated our 30th wedding anniversaries with a two-week trip to Alaska which included a cruise. I didn't spot a MINI the whole time, till we berthed in Vancouver the day before we flew back to Jersey. I also saw the Smart car for the first time in the Canadian port city. I'd gotten tired of the thousands of evergreens on hundreds of mountains under the immense skies of the Last Frontier.

Tis then twas hammered home I was an urbanite.

When we got home that night, I immediately walked over to my MINI and touched it. Actually, I wanted to buss the bonnet but figured that would be a bit extreme. The next morning, as soon as I'd finished my first mug of coffee, I went for a quick motoring. Played the theme from the Avengers TV series. Bought a newspaper or something to justify the obvious.

First, I hope your grandmother feels better soon.

Next you'll need:
Car cover
Boot the tires (like the parking police do). Maybe a steering wheel club.
Hide the keys
Set a sentry to watch over her
Threaten mayhem and retribution for any transgressions

Thank you everyone for the support! I'm back home visiting the folks now. I will visit my grandma tomorrow, but from what I can tell she seems to be doing okay, but I was feeling pretty lonely and missing Viola until I read your posts. You guys have made me feel so much better, just knowing that I'm not being completely silly about missing my MINI! And believe me, taking all the fobs with me DID cross my mind, but all of this was put to a stop when I went to leave with my husband this morning.

As I passed Viola in the garage, I ran a hand over the chrome along the back window and looked at my husband and said, "Don't have too much fun motoring this weekend."

He stared at me like I was on glue and said what I should have known all along: "Dear, I won't touch that car. Out of sheer self-preservation, that car will not move all weekend long. If I were to so much as put a hairline scratch on it, I would never be forgiven for it." Then he said, "I love you." and got in his car.

Did I marry a great guy or what?
