Sport Stripes vs Floor Mats on a 2008 MC

Here's the story:

Our MA from CREVIER told us they would throw in the floor mats ($104), [that they tried to sell to us at first]. So when my brother and I went in to do the deal, placed my deposit etc, I told him I also wanted the Sport Stripes ($84). He said ok, but when he totaled the numbers up, the Sport Stripes were $190 and he explained that the addition was for the installation fee because they don't do it in the factory but at the Distribution Center or somewhere. So ok then.

After we left, my brother told me "You know why it was $190? You paid for the floor mats as well." GREEAAAAT. Thank you for telling me after we got home.

Question is, is the installation really THAT much costing more than the accessory itself?? Or my brother is right? Should I tell my MA about what I think about it?

*sigh*

Basically you got the free floor mats and paid $190 for the sport stripes installed. They are $84 plus installation. If you are not comfortable with the amount, question everything before you actually pay for the car.

Oh ok. So installation really costs more. I'm not really familiar with these kinds of stuff, so thank you!

I paid the same for my factory sport stripes, and got floor mats just for asking later. So, if you're getting ripped off, you at least have company.

Maybe I'm an exception but I got the sport stripes and rubber floor mats thrown in for $0. And, in fact, my MCS came with no stripes so before I made the deal I had asked for the sport stripes but they ended up putting on the bonnet stripes by accident so they then removed them and replaced with sport stripes all for no charge. Now, I had paid for the sports package so I think that may have had something to do with it seeing that that package I believe includes the stripes.

I was quoted $290 for the silver bonnet stripes. So that doesn't sound unreasonable.

Remember...Nothing in this world is free, unless you steal it, and I highly discourage that kind of behavior.

Were you placing your order when you asked for the sport stripes?
If so, they're a factory ordered item and there's no installation charge. They're $100. Check the build site at MINIUSA.com to confirm this. If your MINI's already built, then there would be a charge for the dealer to install.

I think the sports package does include the Bonnet Stripes hence you got them at first instead of the Sport Stripes.

Yes, it was before I placed my deposit. The Bonnet Stripes are $100 and installed by the factory but I wanted the Sport Stripes which are over "step 6" on the MINI Configurator options. But I guess based from the replies on this post, $190 is just about the right charge for the installation and the stripes itself.

Thanks miniclubman!

Mine's on order (hopefully arriving in 2 weeks!) and the sport stripes are dealer installed and were $190 for me as well.

$190 for Sports Stripes seems fair, compard to what Viper Stripe installation costs would be. I was quoted $326 total.

Yep, you got free floor mats. I got a key chain.
Smile, you won something. Many don't.
